maybe you need .net framework 1.1? iff not, perhaps reDL and install? other than that, what are your system specs?

but I agree, this'll make modding much more organized now :)

Great tool, but what is the difference between the origninal HMS and the patch, both run, and as far as I can tell do the same. When will other maps become compatible?

I'll add the compability with other maps in the new version and some new features.
The difference with the version 1 is that the patch correct a problem with Rapid Switch. I changed the name of the "HMS compatible maps" to "HMS
Rapid Switch" cause with the new system of rapid switch every maps will be compatible. And i added some ocx and dlls files to try to fix the
problem that had captain lag, HaloSpartan343, geminijunodeluxe, isuckwoot and some others.

If you kept having trouble check that you have the patch and the VB6 Library.

You can find them at the beginning of the HMS topic.

Good mangement

Run the visual basics runner or something like that it gives a link with the download, afterwards it should let you open once you have extracted everything to a map and then doubleclick the .exe file. thats what i did and should work

HMS v1.1

Post by Deltabweb »

I'm currently developping HMS v1.1 ...
So what new functions would you want to see ?
I'll probably add them so don't hesitate just tell what should be cool to have in HMS v1.1.
It should be posted in one or two weeks.

Well... i have all the things needed... even the patch and VB6. My halo directory was C:\programfiles\microsoftgames\halo but it wasn't backing up my maps, so i put the directory to c:\halo and installed HMS as C:\Halo\HMS but everytime i try to back-up the maps, it says "The system cannot find the path specified. But all my maps are at C:\Halo\Maps shouldn't it work? i don't know why it can't find them.

Make the program more simple. I want to use it for a lan party, but not everyone is as adept as some of us are, so it needs to use common terminology and easy to understand interface.

Looks good, though. Keep up the work. But it definitely needs interface work before a final release.

How to make a prog

Post by Deltabweb »

Hey HaloSpartan343 it's not really a noob question.
For this one I used Visual Studio 6 (Especially Visual Basic, it's one of the easier program to make your own programs. It's a program by Microsoft, but the problem is that the prog is expensive (perhaps it is not now but it was when I had it). You can have a reduction if u are a student like me :) .
I used Ms-Dos too but it's a language that is less and less known (It's the first OS of bill "stuff" (the rich)). It's free but person's that known it are rare.
I used Ms-Dos for rapid switch (the command interface that tell u it will put BGmap1 or Blood Gulch).
U can try to open the .bat files with right click to see their source.
PM me if u want more info.

Nice, guy.

If it was done in VB6, why didn't you just use the PDW to make a setup EXE containing all of the required Component files rather than making them download the whole VB fileset? It would have been much more efficient.

Edit:
You could also use some On Error commands in there, because there are no checks for certain things, making it fail.

Damn inferior programmers. (Yeah, I am an annoying, bishy, self-centered arse. Bite me.)

Edit Again:
It would also be nice to have a Binary Compression feature available when copying maps, because it isn't really convenient for some people to have multiple copies of the large map files...
And personally, I think having the Offset List browser is a waste. Internet Explorer works just fine for that, so the only thing having the IE component in your program does in increases the file size.=/
