Just try restarting your computer, and also make sure your external map paths are set. If that doesn't do it: try not having any other applications open in the background.killarzachary wrote:I'm running XP...

I saw this earlier in the year as just pictures, and now its actually out, Seems like alot of people are experiencing problems and alot aren't. I'm going to DL and hope I don't get one because skinning with this will make it alot more easier since I won't need to re-open the bsp viewer when ever a bitmap is changed, I love you prey .

On a second run through, I really like this application...Mostly due to its instant responsiveness and rather pretty, yet simple GUI.
It does however still eat a bit of RAM, nothing too significant (as opposed to up to 500mb of RAM for entity >_<, to give it credit, entity renders more)
The only downside, and to me it is a large factor at least to me (and probably other skinners) is the lack of certain shader reproduction... Now I don't care about detail_map rendering or bump_map or reflection_maps, I'm just talking about the ground shaders...To give an example, zanzibar_dirt...It has an overlay bitmap, which your app renders, however its the textures that are rendered in that shader is what is significant to me. Like zanzibar_weeds.bitm and the dirt texture aren't there... But I can understand that making that work would be a big workload to get it functioning...
Other than that factor, I really like it...Very kool, smooth and quick.
Thank you for making this

Had the same problem for Sanctuary. The normal ground shader is all you can select. You can't select the crack_tile.bitm or dirt_pebble.bitm. Still this is a nice app.ScottyGEE wrote:The only downside, and to me it is a large factor at least to me (and probably other skinners) is the lack of certain shader reproduction... Not really, I have no plans to release any future versions.JacksonCougAr wrote:Prey is it reasonable to expect future updates to this app?
As for some people receiving errors even on XP: it is probably down to the way I structured the application. See it exists in 2 parts: My Halo 2 Utility Toolkit, and Microsoft's Managed DirectX Utility Toolkit.
Now Microsoft's toolkit is not much more than a (poor) port of there C++ one, and has not been updated for a while now ...but the reason I implemented it was because of the awesome GUI controls that it contained. And it was because the GUI part was so integrated with the rest of their toolkit, and because much of the toolkit was very professionally written anyway, that I decided to just bring the whole thing over. Speeding up the development process considerably.
But evidently this has caused some problems for people. One being how the toolkit manages input. Instead of letting the DirectInput.dll take of things, they override the windows form message processing, as well as reference a few native dll's, and then take keyboard/mouse input from there.
This can cause problems possibly in vista where maybe some of those native dll's don't exist. Also because the input is priority-less, it slows down when for example MSN is open in the background sucking in all the input first >_>
I'm going to being work on my own render toolkit now, taking the best bits from Microsofts', and designing it how I want it, taking vista into consideration as well, where possible. This will then fuel my 3D applications in the future, and so I might come back to this project then...keyword being might..
As for certain bitmaps not being editable, sorry about that, didn't realise such a problem would occur. What you can do though if you want to inject a new bitmap over one that is not accessible, is to just swap a bitmap for it in the tag combobox, inject, and then swap back to the original bitmap ^_^
And yes of course it is still going to take up more memory than the usual application, I am allowing you to roam massive 3D maps here, lulz

I had long hoped for an application such as this to be released to keep my skinning alive (not that it ever had much of a life anyways). I am saddened, though, that I cannot get this application to work on my Vista. It shuts down before it even opens. I don't have time to skin the old way anymore, so it looks like this was my last hope. Thanks though, Prey, for all your hard work with this amazing tool. I hope it's widely used by the community.

Awesome program Prey! It's running great for me on Vista. Vista users try these steps:
Right Click Prophet Application
Select properties
Select the Compatibility tab
Select Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (SP 2)
Under Privilege Level, Check off the box.
Mine runs fine, If this doesn't work try restarting your computer after this.
Thanks Prey I love this program so much!
