I was so sick of always having the reinstall Halo, and I found this trying to find a way to stop it. I swear it works, and I have people who have done it, also. This way, you have Halo, then another copy for your mods. So say, you want to skin, but you also like Pepsi's FTW, you simply just use one copy to skin, and have FTW on another copy.
Okay, go in to your Microsoft Games directory (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games) or where ever your Halo folder is. Find the Halo folder, and right click it. Hit copy, then go to another folder; any folder that doesn't contain Halo. Right click again, and hit paste; in the new folder. Now, rename that Halo folder something like, "Modded Halo". Now copy it, and paste it in the SAME folder as the original Halo. The reason for this is it must be with Gamespy, or you can't even start a LAN server. Now, go into your "Modded Halo" folder, and look for the Halo Application. Right click it, and hit create shortcut. Rename this "Modded Halo" also. Now, move it to you desktop, and you're set.
This should work, I can try and answer questions if it doesn't.
Having two copies of a Halo on a computer at once.
