(fototut)working with sparkedit

Post by xserre »

Hi, this is my tut of working with sparkedit there will probably allready be one of these but I'me hoping for a nicer one.
note:this tutorial will not be very advanced becausyou will never get to really use most of the tools most of the the tools .

well here's a link for a download of sparkedit:
http://www.download.com/Halo-Combat-Evo ... 65779.html

vocabulary.
here are some words wich you'll find in sparkedit so heres a short"translation" of them.
-duplicate-copy your current selection.
-delete-remove your current selection.
-select mode-makes you able of selecting things.
-translate mode-makes you able to move around your current selection.
-rotate mode-makes you able of turning your selection around all of his axises(x,y&z).
^these are the buttons you will use most of all^.
Image

starting out.
you must open the map wich you'll want to be modding next as an example i'll open sidewinder for a change.
so go to file (upperleft corner) and click"open cache file..."
a browser will pop up and will be showing you where your MAPS file
(default=C:/Program files/Microsoft games/halo/MAPS).
open the sidewinder.map file(or the the file you want to mod).
Image
I find the interface of sparkedit rather irrithating (sorry grenadiac)
but you can change it and make it more comfortable.
Image

let's start workin' then.
first fo all grenadiac(the maker of sparkedit)probably uses a qwerty keyboar wich is bad news for all the people who have a azerty keyboard, like me.
here's a quick view of the controls.
Image
now for people who have a azerty keyboard there is a simple wa of navigating through your map:
-press "w" for going forward.
-push and keep pushing your right mousebutton to move your camera around.
-you can use the shift button to lower your camera and the space button to go up.

the edit&models tab.
Image

the models tab
the models tab doesn't have a real function but it's actually nice to see some thing in close up
Image

the edit tab.
the edit tab is the most important of all tree in here you're gonna start
the real work.
Image
i have show the vehicles category but there are other categorys holding other objects.
A QUICK INDEX OFF ALL CATEGORYS(only the important ones).
-vehicles-vehicles.
-scenery-rocks,plants,trees,lights,...
-player spawn-contains all possible spawns of a player on the map.
-MP flags-oddball,flag,hill,racepoint.
-MP equipment-weapons,powerups,healthpacks.

how to use the buttons.
Image
after selecting a category the objects contained in that category will highlight use the select mode to select an object.
use the duplicate mode to duplicate an object.
Image
now you can use the translate mode to drag around objects.
to drag objects in the sky or to the ground you must use page up or page down button.

that is actually all you need to know about sparkedit.
i hope my tutorial helped you out and have fun with it.

some pictures showing some randoming things you can do with sparkedit.

Image
^looks like a path don't you think^
Image
(low gravity is made with hmtv3.5)
Image
^the end of the path^

well thats have fun and happy newyear
