This was originally written by goilla69. I rewrote it for him and added a lot of extra details. Here it is:

Note: Only known to work for Bloodgulch.

Open My Computer from your desktop (hotkey Windows + E). Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial. I suggest you make a new folder, so it won't become too confusing. I'll call this folder GOILLA69 after the original tutorial submitter. Now enter the folder and create two more folders, one called ORGINAL and another called HEXED. Return to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial and enter your Maps folder, located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\maps. Copy bloodgulch.map and paste it in both folders ORIGINAL and HEXED.

Fabulous. Now open your Hex Workshop. Go to the File Menu and select Open. Enter your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\GOILLA69\HEXED and open the bloodgulch.map. Don't get scared by what you see! Think of them as only a bunch of numbers and letters a 1st grader could recite. You should see the following code at the very top:

Code: Select all

0983 0100 00B0 5BB3 2F60 8438 F059 2E05 4128 2A7C 3557 8A3B 40C3 B4D1 2994 78E2 D9AA E5A0 74AC E9D9 37E2 F30D 349B 2F36 E9CE 0646 272B 0282 E4CC 402E ED41 1049 83A4 6045 5BEF 27EC A0C7 E6F2 D662 E7D5 C35E DB15 CA8D 08E6 5424 13E2 28B9 2950 E51A 0C1F F2D7 3CA3 8F06 5E9D E5A9 763E 51B9 B510 21B6 D609 933B 5F2D E913 377E A8AB 6522 7FF4 F305 6908 3C54 F61F 219D DBBB FE74 2D11 4CDA EBF8 3ADF C714
Replace that with:

Code: Select all

6461 6568 0700 0000 F435 DB00 0000 0000 7419 8500 801C 5600 0000 0000 0000 0000 626C 6F6F 6467 756C 6368 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 3031 2E30 302E 3030 2E30 3536 3400 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0100 0000 76D5 A35E 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
Save the file and close it (it's up to you whether you want to make a back-up of it or not).

Make a new folder under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\GOILLA69. Name this new folder MOD1. Copy and paste the map you just hexed from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\GOILLA69\HEXED and paste it into your MOD1 folder.

Now it is time to use our awesome modding programs. Open HHT, HMT, or SparkEdit and mod the map in the folder MOD1 all you want. Once you are done (don't forget to save your work!), open the map you just modded with Hex Workshop. Replace the new code witht he original code. In other words, you lazy butt :), replace this:

Code: Select all

6461 6568 0700 0000 F435 DB00 0000 0000 7419 8500 801C 5600 0000 0000 0000 0000 626C 6F6F 6467 756C 6368 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 3031 2E30 302E 3030 2E30 3536 3400 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0100 0000 76D5 A35E 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
With this:

Code: Select all

0983 0100 00B0 5BB3 2F60 8438 F059 2E05 4128 2A7C 3557 8A3B 40C3 B4D1 2994 78E2 D9AA E5A0 74AC E9D9 37E2 F30D 349B 2F36 E9CE 0646 272B 0282 E4CC 402E ED41 1049 83A4 6045 5BEF 27EC A0C7 E6F2 D662 E7D5 C35E DB15 CA8D 08E6 5424 13E2 28B9 2950 E51A 0C1F F2D7 3CA3 8F06 5E9D E5A9 763E 51B9 B510 21B6 D609 933B 5F2D E913 377E A8AB 6522 7FF4 F305 6908 3C54 F61F 219D DBBB FE74 2D11 4CDA EBF8 3ADF C714
.

Now save it and close the file. Now copy the modded file from MOD1 and paste it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\maps. Click yes if it prompts you to overwrite. When you don't want to play the mod anymore, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\GOILLA69\ORIGINAL and copy the bloodgulch.map and paste it back into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Trial\maps. Overwrite when prompted.

I hope this helped and everyone give a big thanks to Goilla69. I only found it necessary to rewrite it because it contained quite a few grammatical errors and, well, wasn't written for newbie modders. However, don't try this if you've just started modding. You have to have at least some experience in HMT or HHT or SparkEdit to even mod the map, period.

I hope to see more Halo Trial mods posted! Remember to not steal anything from full Halo (and don't even post it if you do...).

I'm sorry about bumping this, but I have a question. I was trying to do this to convert a PC map to Trial, but I don't know how to replace. Pretty noobish. Sorry about this.
