for the frag grenade did u save? in hexworkshop u gotta save like 5 times.Andrew_b wrote:i followed the tut but when i play halo it still says fragmentation grenade. im useing hexworkshop like you. i eddited both areas. and how would i hex edit so when you die it says you were sniped by ... instead of you were killed by
and for the sniped by whover thing thats easy just find "was killed" and youll see it. just edit it to your liking. this works with all text like "loading map bloodgulch" or "choose team"

I got a problem I'm changed the assault rifle name to battle rifle is works fine but one little thing is said this:
"Picked up a+ battle rifle"
I renamed it and checked look good but is says this:
.P.i.c.k.e.d. .u.p. .a. .b.a.t.t.l.e. .r.i.f.l.e........
But still same problem and i renamed the fuel rod gun into flak gun but still shows up as fuel rod gun i check it and retype still same. I'll try to get some screenshots and let you c.

greno try this:
.P.i.c.k.e.d. .u.p. .a. b.a.t.t.l.e. .r.i.f.l.e........
instead of this:
.P.i.c.k.e.d. .u.p. .a. .b.a.t.t.l.e. .r.i.f.l.e........
see if that works. i don't think all that spacing is necessary. idk

the spaces are Very necessary. for every "." in the name equates to 00 in hex. spaces between words equate to 2e. i dont know how it is when you try to overwrite with hexworkshop but i found that the most efficient (although takes a little longer) way is to overwrite in hex not UTFPatrickh wrote:

heres the actual hex string of .P.i.c.k.e.d. .u.p. .a. b.a.t.t.l.e. .r.i.f.l.e....... instead of the Unicode. it will be easier to replace this way

Tutorial helped me figure it out. in the text editing part you said do it backwards, all I did was start at the beginning letter, type my first letter , and it overwrote the normal first letter. then hit the right arrow, wrote my second letter. When I got done writing what i wanted in the letter, arrow over, letter, arrow over fashion , I had some letters left over, which I replaced with periods.

lol i somehow managed to mess up my maps hex code...
dont know how i did it... i edited the vehicle, weapon and everything other to my liking, saved it and went all with my work... after a day i check, and the whole map is replaced with those giberish alt code symbols... i tried to search up the things i changed but they dont show up in hex editor... and they do still show up in the map... i even checked the offests against a normal map and they are different... dont know how i did it but it seems like a good way to prevent theft of maps since no one else can edit what i already changed in the map =]

im sure i didnt... a huge (almost 1/5 portion of the map is just pure dots )oo oo)... its like someone added deleted a lot of stuff in the map and left it empty... what i dont understand is how the hex code is changed in every way possible (iv checked with original maps) but the map still functions correctly. For ex, I replaced "picked up" with "obtained:" and when i open hex editor and search for the work "obtained" it doesnt show up... but hows that possible when it shows up in game? lol i messed up the hex structure... well one things for sure, itll take a genius to crack my mod now
Check any boxes that say: 'As unicode latin blah, blah...'
