Modifying Halo: Combat Evolved for Macintosh
by Jeapadea

Programs to use: (see Macologist Halo Downloads page)
Halo Mapping Tools (HMT)
Halo Hacking Kit (HHK)
PPFMaster

Things you can do:
Modify textures of all game models- HMT

*Modify models-HMT (For user created models, and putting single player models in MP), HHK (just for putting models from single player into multiplayer) OBJ Converter is required to actually import them into Halo, though HMT is still required to a certain extent.

*Swapping offsets-HMT (this would be swapping the fire of one gun for another, example: swapping the tank projectile with a pistol projectile, enabling the pistol to shoot tank rounds)

*Hex editing/Tag editing-HMT to a certain extent. This is very cool. This allows you to change the speed of vehicles, characters, and also enabling you to change the damage of weapons, the homing of weapons, and a lot of other things. This is very complicated, and is not reccommended to people very new to Halo modding, and unfimiliar with hex editing tools. Hex editing cannot be done all in HMT, you must also use a hex editor such as the program HexEditor.

*Dependancy Swapping- HMT. This is a very effective tool. This is like an advanced version of offset swapping. Instead of swapping the things, it only changes one. Also you can swap things from other sections, such as you making the pistol shoot Master Chiefs out of your gun, warthogs, or grenades.

*Rebuilding Maps- HMT, HHK. This tool allows you to import content from other maps, such as models, or characters. An example of this is importing Captain Keyes into blood gulch. You could make the banshee fire Captain Keyes instead of the fuel rod, and you could watch him fall down to earth and die. Very nice, eh?

What you can't do.

* Make new maps

* Import custom sounds (I hear this is meant to be implemented into a later version of HMT, whenever BobInDaShadows, the author of HMT, gets back from his school)

* Move objects around in the map (Otherwise known as editing the BSP of the map, this can be done with SparkEdit, which BobInDaShadows is, or was working on before he went away)

*HMT is not a modeler program. It can inject them and view them, but not edit them directly. You will need a 3d modeler program to do this. A free modeler is Wings3D

*Convert SinglePlayer maps into Multiplayer maps.

Also, there are several tutorials available to do these things, and in the downloads section of this site there are the programs spoken about above, as well as the tutorials. The tutorials are all combined in a pdf file and called "Mac Halo Modding Guide".

Mods for Halo:

Here is a list of some of the better (some aren't the greatest, however) mods that users have already created for Halo mac.

See Macologist's Halo Mod Downloads page.

Most of these were mirrored from original sources at http://files.halomods.com
Beware: Also be aware that all PC Halo mods will not work with the Mac version of Halo. If you want a mod that is guarenteed to work with mac, look in the mac section. Also do not look under the CE section of maps if you want a map that will work with the mac version of Halo, those are for Halo: CE which is currently only available for PC.

Also note that you will need to create an account on the site these are linked to until the mods are hosted on this site (except for jackal in blood gulch, you will not need an account on MacDev in order to download that one.)

Also some of these mods may require you to have PPFMaster, to apply PPF mods, which enable you to download mods without downloading a full map file, greatly reducing the time for you to download the mod. An average map file compressed is 5MB for Blood Gulch and around 7MB for Sidewinder. An average PPF is 10k for both maps. This program is found here at Macologist.

Also found there is the Converted Map Patcher, which you will need in order to install the New Mombasa Classic map.

BEWARE!
Backup your maps! If you edit a map and do not have a backup of it, the only thing you can do is delete the modded map, re-install the game, and put the new map (you can probably delete the rest of the maps you reinstalled, except for the one you had deleted because it was modded, unless you want to keep them for backups) in your maps folder. The way I do it is I have 2 maps folders: One I do no edit, and use for backups, and the other is the one I use for the game.

Play as a Jackal in Blood Gulch
By [MOR] goober
Enables you to play as a Jackal instead of a Master Chief in Blood Gulch. Note: You can NOT choose your character like in Halo 2. You will always play as a jackal.

None of those links work, and this needs to be in the tutorials section.
Also, your sig is way too big.

That's a really old post from what I remember. There's better info in the MacDev of HaloDev for people who need it. Also, all of those modding programs are bundled together in the stickied mac topic in the utilities section. Including PPF-O-Matic, PPF-master and tutorials.

My point is, that information from 2004 isn't as relevant as the newer stuff that can be found. Only someone who either doesn't mod mac or hasn't for several years would've reposted that.

Most of those mods don't even exist anymore and why bother hunting down links that don't work when most of the tools necessary for modding are all available here.
