FTP the easy way.

Post by bogdog28 »

This tut is going to teach all you nubs that still use a ftp program like Smart ftp to ftp without it. It is super simple.

Requirements:
-A Computer
-Working internet connection
-Modded xbox with an ethernet chord shuved in the back.

Step 1:
Turn your xbox on and wait for your dashboard to come up. Once it is up go to your settings button and look for network settings. Go in there and read what your ip address.
Hint: if you have the noob softmod dashboard that has the x button in the middle then your ip will be on the bottom right of the screen.
My ip is 192.168.0.118

Step 2:
Go to your computer and open up any folder. Ex.) My music, My pictures, etc... Once it is open then in the top directory address you type in the following. Type in the following: FTP://192.168.0.118/. Put your IP though instead of mine.

Step 3: It should take just few seconds and then it will either prompt you for your password whcih you should already know or take you straight to your drives.

Any questions or if you need more help then just message me. Every tutorial i see people always say you need an ftp program and im just saying that you dont and that this is a hell of a lot easier.

Enjoy! :D

Edit: I'll add some good pics soon when i get the chance.
why is everything so difficult >_<

Your both correct. Only difference is the results.

halo0001's method brings you directly to the xbox HDD root when you hit enter while bogdog28's method requires you to enter your user name and pass.

The reason is because with halo0001's method, the user name and pass are entered WITH the IP. Basically, auto login.
Many say that this can be done with Internet explorer, while this true, it can actually be done with ANY BROWSER, even windows explorer!
*window explorer work best in my opinion*

Nothing is working for me to connect to my Xbox

Post by GrimFragger »

Can someone please help. I am new to this website as well as the modding community. I have the required programs downloaded such as smart ftp,Ch2r.... When I go to connect my computer with my Xbox, into order to gain the .map files, the request is timed out, and no information is being passes through the two. I have created an ip adress for my Xbox and everything, yet it still wont connect. I have even tried it with all the default settings. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this problem?

Guess I can finally post this. Okay, here we go:
Okay, I'm trying to connect from my modded xbox to my computer through FTP. The xbox is hooked to a router which my computer also connects to.
I have a dashboard skin that displays my I.P. Address and I have not had this problem until recently.

Here are my System Network Settings:
-Current IP: 192.168.0.2
-MAC Address: 00-0d-3a-8a-a3-c3
-Enable: Yes
-Type: DHCP
-IP Address: 192.168.0.2
-Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
-Gateway: 192.168.0.100

FTP SERVER
-Enable: Yes
-User: xbox
-Pass: xbox
-Port: 21
-Min. PASV Port: 1024
-SYST Name: 65536

Like I said, this hasnt been a problem until recently and I don't understand why this is happening.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Oh, here is the error I received.
