Great add-in and update plug in
NOTES:
I'll cut out all the crap about this program and say a few things:
########### KNOWN BUGS ###########
- Clicking on a column header in a listview while a context menu is open causes the menu to stick.
- Some tags in Halo CE maps do not extract. This is because they are not in the map. They are actually default tags and are not needed to be extracted.
####################################
=== And back to the crap... ===
Ok, so you've just opened HEKPlus for the first time and don't know where to start.
1. Well, the user interface is as simple as it can be. On the menu, go to File > Open, or use the toolbar and click the Open button.
2. Choose a Map to open. It can be any map from Halo 1 or Halo 2. Please note that Halo 1 Xbox compressed maps are not currently supported, but will be later on.
3. Browse the map.
=== Using the tag extractor: ===
Instead of repeating myself, look at the Tag Extraction Queue panel in HEKPlus. Click the button with the help icon in it and read up on how to extract.

What all can it do so far and what do you plan on incorporating in the future?

This tool is mainly for Halo PC/CE/1, it can't do much (anything) for Halo 2 (at the moment).

so what exactly does this do? is it like promethues and sparkit and HEK? put together all into one program?

No, it is not. It is a program that is able to convert tags out of Halo PC Maps, Halo CE Maps, and Halo Xbox Maps into HEK Format. You can also add a password to your maps if you want to protect them.
It can recover lost tags if you have released a map but lost your tagset.
Also, do not mix SparkEdit and the HEK. It already has Sapien which is a full-time Halo Engine rendered populator.
Btw, he did release it himself.

Enjoy.. :p
Halo 2 is not yet fully supported, as the main focus was getting support for Halo 1 first. However, it can open Halo 2 maps no problem. Really, all that needs to be done is plugins do be made for Halo 2.

will we be able to extract all tags from halo 2 maps once it is complete?
Posted: Tue Nov 22, 2005 8:14 am
by SteelixB
No. Since there is no editing kit for Halo 2, what's the point in extracting the tags? Besides, I have nothing to compare original Halo 2 tags with compiled Halo 2 tags.

what new features are in the new version (the one where you have to install it from the setup.exe file)

by SteelixB
It's written basically everywhere. On the update checker, it gives a description of the features, on the website's version history, and on the official release post on gearbox forums.

why all of a sudden did you make HEK plus a setup.exe file and make it install files in the program files folder? what happened to your old "click on hek and its the updated one."

A setup is much more practical for updates.
"click on hek and its the updated one."
what do you mean?
