No doubt MK fans are thinking the same thing right now. With Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe leaping from rumor to Unreal Engine 3-powered reality in a single bound (the image here was rendered in-engine), is Sub-Zero really going to show Batman his own spine? "DC has been really good at letting us do our thing, but they obviously have to protect their properties as well," explains Boon. "I don't suspect they would have been too keen on us ripping Batman's head off!"
And while writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, fresh from DC's Countdown mega-series, are making sure the story jives with comic lore, we can't help but wonder how the hell these two worlds are compatible. "They are not compatible!" agrees Boon. "Thats what makes this pairing so exciting, and that's part of the conflict when they meet. Each side looks at the other as the enemy, which is cause for a lot of the discord they face. As far as the game is concerned, since it's being designed by the Mortal Kombat team, you can expect a good amount of brutality in it. We Definitely want to push the envelope, but again, we aren't going to have Superman rip Sub-Zero's arms off....as much as we'd love to!"
