Grand Theft Auto IV

Post by Sarb »

So GTA IV came out today, and has gotten some pretty good reviews.

10/10 from Gamespot and IGN
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/grandtheftauto4/

Any of you guys played it? What do you think, does it deserve the perfect scores?

Single player was fun, but the Online stuff like Free Roam and Party Mode with friends is awesome.

My rating for this game is 9.5/10 ;x...

Great job Rockstar.

I will get it once I finish my exams. It's hard enough to resist playing Halo.

Also I found this:

As for GTA and myself.. I'm not sure. The game looks great, but I've not played a GTA since the first Playstation, and that wasn't really much fun for me. Knowing me like you guys totally do, should I get IV? :p

Oh, and good to see you Sarb. :)

This sucks. No PC date released, and it's the talk of the day. Lame.

lol, people who think reviews mean something.

I won't be buying it unless I hear lots of good things from my peers...none of the other GTA games have held my interest long enough to warrant a purchase.

My brother got it for PS3. From what I've seen, it looks pretty fun.

I will probably get it for 360 when I have the chance.

A once-in-ten-years score is somewhat significant.

Well, I got a shot at it. My friend who works at best buy popped a copy from his shipments for XBox 360. Visually stunning, and really polished off. I can't wait for PC now, I'm seriously plotting to steal his shit just to play it.

from what i've seen of it, it's a real promising game, like, GOTY 08 promising. yesterday and the day before i was watching streams and was amazed. either pirates or stores breaking release dates, i dunno, but i was really impressed.

the two biggest things i noticed are the graphics, which are a vast improvement over other GTA games (thank god), and there's proper physics for people. while watching this guy's stream, he jacked a minivan, and tossed the owner out, and start driving off. but the car's owner was holding onto the driver's door handle! as the player turned right to round a corner, centrifugal force (iirc) pulled the hapless victim farther towards the sidewalk, where he collided with a parked car and was promptly brushed off his car.

and since doors have proper collision now, it's possible to hit people with them. another part of the stream, the player is backing up the car towards a cop with the driver's side door opened. by turning at just the right moment, the cop was skillfully knocked to the ground by the door, and the player sped off.

oh, and if you hit something going too fast, you'll fly out the windshield too, so buckle up or don't suck at driving.

I'm going to get it as soon as I can get to the store, assuming the store has it. It may be some time, since I can rarely find a ride to the store :(

All my friends appear to be in love with the game, I might get it. GTA has never really interested me that much. If I got the game it would be for free roam/online only.
