So apart from an internet connection, what do you need to play Halo 3 online?
do you need the normal gamer account you make on the 360, or do you have to pay, its something I've been wondering for a while, but couldn't find the answer to
sorry if this is in the wrong place as well.

You do need an xbox live gold subscription. Which does require either a redeemable gamercard type thing you can buy at basically any retail store. Or you may purchase the gold subscription for $50 via xbox live. Which will be charged to your credit card and there after each year, until canceled.

Damn, that basically means i can't play online on my 360 now
my Dad doesn't let me pay for anything unless its a one-time payment.
which is really annoying for me
With normal Xbox do you need to pay as well, or is it completely free?

It's the same for the xbox1. What you can do is buy one of those gamercards. They range from something like 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and a year. If you want to go this route, you could buy a one year subscription card, on your 360 put the code in. Have a gold subscription for a year with this card. Play halo3 for the year. Then buy another, or it will automatically return to a silver membership.

Your problem lies within your father, not within the methods of payment. It's hardly annoying.

Well, you could buy a 1 year subscription for like 60$. Then you have a whole year to not worry about paying anything else, it'd be kind of like only paying once, and you could always cancel it after the year is up.

The way to go would be the subscription card, rather than a credit card. Also, it's $50 for a year.
