Favourite game series

Sure, we've had our favourite old school games and a whole bunch of other favourite threads...But I want to see what your favourite game series is.

The series needs at least 2 games (duh) and please say why when you post.

What's mine? sure, one would think Halo, but no it isn't.

Mine is in fact the Command and conquer series. Perhaps its the fact that I've grown up with it (I believe that it was the first strategy game I ever played, and I played it close to when it came out), so perhaps its got a bit of nostalagic bias...but then again, after buying The First Decade DVD as soon as it came out, playing the originals again still provided fantastic and fast gameplay with an excellent set of storylines. Its always had a fast pased style to it, its been accessable through its simplicity (1 resource, one mouse but for many actions) and yet allows strategists to totally whipe the floor with their opponents...

whilst Command and conquer generals is regarded as a CNC that well...wasn't a CNC (thanks to EA no doubt) yet it was still an excellent strategy game and it broke a possible monotony in their games.
The biggest downside is that cnc3 doesn't run well on my laptop (as all I own are laptops, I dont like PCs) and it really is fun but I'm missing out =( there's the alternative of the 360 version but thats just stupid...It'd most likley be way too easy for me as I'm assuming they'd never bought a RTS game before.

Half Life. Fo Sho.
I don't really like halo very much after a while, it gets kind of boring.. But I can play the Half Life series over and over :)

I pick the Half Life series because it has a great story line, amazing and challenging gameplay, and you actually have to find your own way around the levels and figure out various problems. And there's just something about it that just makes me really like it. It's just more in your control than any other game really, and I love the environments (like city/nature/creepyness place), they are picked out and built very nicely :)
My second favorite would be the AVP series :p

Well, I don't really play anything other than Halo. Although, since Halo really isn't a good choice here, I'd have to go with the "Need For Speed" series. I have played them all, beat them all, and used to own them all. My favorite as of right now is "NFS : Most Wanted". I was, for about a day, No. 1 on the Xbox Live leaderboards. I couldn't be beat! :P However, I probably couldn't even go around a track once without wrecking now...

I don't like C&C type games, and FPS get boring too fast for me.

I loved Grand Theft Autos though. Been playing since GTA1. ;P

Final Fantasy (although FF12 was absolute shit, and 10-2 was just an excuse for fan service for 99% of the game).

If not FF, then Phantasy Star probably. I would say Command and Conquer, but C&C3 sucked, and Supreme Commander won the "competition" those two were having hands down.

I've always loved the warcraft games. WC3 is what did it for me though, the custom map editors were so in depth that you could pretty much do anything.

The Banjo-Kazooie Games.(Console only.)
The second one (tooie) supplied me with many months of good gaming. I haven't really played kazooie, but I would think it would be just as good if not better.

It is a shame that as we get more technology, the ideal game becomes less about length, story and gameplay and more of multiplayer and graphics. It feels as if the standards have gone way down.

The story in Halo far surpasses any I have previously experienced.

Gameplay, probably GTA.

Though the story with Halo is indeed great as Tural stated, I think I have never found a game more enjoyable than the Zelda and Metroid games (though I have played none of these on consoles newer than the '64).

Final Fantasy and Starcraft pwn, I still play Starcraft online from time to time, its nearly 10 years old and a lot of people still play it, it's great! FF X-2 was really lame, I really liked 10 so I got 10-2 and from the start I didn't like it, so it was a waste, I haven't played 12 yet, I might rent it sometime though.

Starcraft could only really be considered a series based on a technicality, if you counted the N64 version, which was just awful.

What games have you been playing?

Anyways, Doom is probably my favorite. Beat Doom 2 when I was for, stuck with me since :P
