Im gonna be getting an elite this coming Tuesday and I was wondering everyone who owns a 360s opinions. Fan or no fan?! Ive seen both sides argued but i want to know how it realy stacks up, Ive heard the fans, such as the Nyko fan cool realy well, however ive also heard it causes a new issue with the 360s due to it using the power. So whats everyone say?

I haven't had an issue with my 360 overheating and I would say it is in a pretty small space.(No fan)

My 360 broke twice, which kind of blows. On the 3rd day I had it, and then a while later also. But it's the best system out so...

yea thats one of the reasons i want to buy it 0 chance i get an older xbox 360, figure 2 years into it and they release another system um sure they had to have done something for the overheating problems, that, the sexy color, and teh hard drive =D

Not black so you know.
Fans are gay, my 360 is loud enough as it is... actually >_> I think I'll mod it to be silent'er when I mod the case to be true black.

Oh, and those 360 controllers that are black --_-- They ARE black... compare them to the 360 in the daylight, lit room, and you'll see my annoyance.

I got a 360 on launch day and over the summer it broke. Then I got an Elite after the price drop and I've had no problems with that.

my 360 has a fan (nyko) with its own power supply, so THAT isnt an issue to me.

Never used a fan and I've had it since launch day and have never had a problem with it. As long as you give it some space you should be fine without a fan, but it's your choice.

Ya. I've heard that the Nyko Intercooler for the 360 is not safe, but I dunno for sure...

Give your 360 about a foot of space in each direction and it should be just fine. If you get paranoid enough, just put a small desk fan or something beside it, or behind it. Overheating isn't really a big problem. Some users just fail to ventilate it properly. I'm sure there are cases where it overheated for no reason but for the most part, it's the end-user's fault.

Theres a custom Halo themed xbox coming out soon thats going to be the same price as the elite is and comes with the same stats I believe, You should get that, and for over heating, kibito is right, give it space and it'll be fine.

Yeah no. My Elite died =[
The intercooler makes it really loud, and uses up a ton of power so I don't use it just for that reason. I've also heard that it can cause the RROD but I haven't experienced it first hand or know anybody who has so I don't know for sure.

thats gay... >_> i will strangle someone at microsoft if mine dies especialy if it happends right before or around the release of halo 3, as for the intercooler i looked into it and the original white Nyko Intercooler had an issue with the A/C thru part melting and shorting, however the problems been fixed with the new Nyko Elite Intercooler. Im thinking im gonna buy it 20$ aint bad, but i was wondering if anyone has heard of issues other than this with using an cooling fan, dont want to spend the money for something that wont help at all or does more harm than good

I have 2 360's, a core and premium, both a few months after launch. No fan, both work perfectly fine. I don't have a fan in my room, and with both 360's, it is pretty hot, but both haven't given me any problems, so I say no, but thats just my two cents.

I don't use a fan, I always play it, I never have problems. Sometimes it freezes but only because of the game.

hot and melting

I have a good friend that has a white "NYKO Intercooler" (not Elite) and it got too hot and melted his power cord connection. The intercooler was ruined and caused his 360 to have intermittent RROD. He then sent his 360 in for repair. He just recently received it back and . . . nothing. Instant, constant RROD. He's pretty bummed. Was just trying to keep his system from overheating and ended up with this. Which is the lesser of the two evils?!

I also know there is a fan that sits under the 360 (when standing vertical) and runs off a usb power connection. So, in theory, you could have a fan that could be totally separate from the 360's own power supply. Of course, you would have to manually turn it on as it would not turn on with the 360.
