Can my computer ever play games without it lagging so bad?

Specs:
MS WindowsXP SP2
Intel Celeron CPU 2.00GHz
256MB RAM
Itel 82845H/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

Is there any way I can play Halo:PC and other games without my computer lagging so much I cannot control, or the controls "sticking"?

Is there a program I could use to improve the gameplay? I don't care about graphics if I can't control myself!

I have all the setting at the lowest, even the sound, but the controls are still lagging/delaying/sticking.

Thanks,
Killpill28

Well, I meant if you plan on ever playing a game like Halo without lag, of course.

I just want the controls to work better.

I can't kill one thing without it making me walk into a wall, or Elite for that matter. I walk off cliffs sometimes...

Upgrade your RAM, video card, and CPU to good stuff, and to do that, you'd have to buy a new motherboard and nearly everything else, so yeah, you're better off buying a new comp.

1gb and core 2 duo with an inbuilt gfx card are pretty mainstream for computers and thus can be pretty cheap.
If vista get 2gb ram, much more efficient...

You'll be very happy with that result.

But to run Halo pc, you don't really need many specs at all...You'd basically need more ram and a better gfx card. even 512 ram should do it right?

It's your RAM that's making it lag like that. You should invest in a new RAM card.

And a new graphics card while you're at it.

At least that's what I would do.
