Favourite game series
Apparently not good ones, based on your comment. No games I have seen, played, or heard of come anywhere near the depth of the story Halo has. There's so much unknown about it; between the books, games, ARGs, and other references, the complexity of the story is unmatched. Is there a game you'd like to present that gives enough to know that there is a backstory that is unknown and mysterious, yet doesn't fully explain it, as it waits for a proper time to do so? Although, I will tell you right now, you won't change my mind. It's mostly rhetorical. Regardless of what you say, you won't change my opinion about it, because if playing the games haven't done so, your explanation wouldn't either.
In short: I like the Halo story, and I am not open minded to others' arguments.

I was counting the Brood War expansion set, which added to the campaign, but I do agree that the N64 version was terrible.Tural wrote:Starcraft could only really be considered a series based on a technicality, if you counted the N64 version, which was just awful.
Well said.INSANEdrive wrote:Starcraft is Classic.

I would say Starcraft is enough of a series, considering Brood War, Starcraft 64, and a confirmed and announced second game. Anyway:
Zelda megawinz
Metroid
Mario adventure/platformers
Smash Bros (Curse the big N for delaying Brawl)
Halo (NOWAI)
Starcraft
uhhh...other stuff I'm way too busy to think of at the moment.
My parents don't let me play GTA, otherwise I'd be all over that. Played it once, it was fun as heck.

Sure, a lot of people say halo is overhyped...But I love it for its social experience...But halflife...I don't see whats so excellent about it. Sure, I like it...But when I'm playing I don't have a manic grin on my face like I do dead rising, the feelingg of accomplishment when I've overrun an enemies base using excellent tactics and countertactics, having an awesome feeling like when I play guitar hero, and of course there's the lack of social aspect, and the lack fo blwoing up two scarabs (;)) like Halo (unless you're counting counterstrike....but I'm not as I dont like it)...
Like the Halflife series is good but no notable time where I've gone "Damn now thats just hectic, I've never done something so amzaing before!"

chad, i'll assume Jean Luc meant "four".
Anyway, ghostofchurch, Half Life (the original), during it's time period, would have been amazing. Nowadays it's actually still OK, minus the graphics.
But I definitely wouldn't put down the Half-Life series without playing HL2 + Episode 1+2. They're (at least the first, but the other episodes are amazing as well) just down right amazing and almost every part of them i've rated in my little head-review a damn near perfect score.

I love Half-Life 2 no matter what. I love the episodic story they have but I hate the cliffhangers, especially the one at the end of EP2.
I won't spoil it.

Oh, I know, it's just that I don't have the kind of memories with the Half-Life series as I do with Doom. I think there's a big difference between "Personal Favorite Game" and "Best Game".Kirk wrote:Anyway, ghostofchurch, Half Life (the original), during it's time period, would have been amazing. I can't believe no one has mentioned the Marathon story. You think HALO has depth? Check out Marathon (not xBox 360, computer, it's free for download here) and you'll be amazed by how much depth the story has, and how similar Halo's story is to Marathon's.
And please, DooM? Doom's story had the sophistication of the average cockroach. Four words can describe DooM's story without missing much: "OH TEH NOES, ZOMBEHS!"
As you can see, I'm going with Marathon because:
1. It still has a dedicated fan base and heart-clenching multiplayer and single player after 13 years.
2. The story is HOLY SHI-
3. You can make new campaign and multiplayer levels.
4. It has online Coop.
5. It's just plain addictive.

Right. It's probably because i've never really played doom that I never got into it...gh0570fchurch wrote:Oh, I know, it's just that I don't have the kind of memories with the Half-Life series as I do with Doom. Medal of Honor. I love the music, and I love the game play.
I own two of the PS1 games, three of the PS2 games, and three of the PC games. Soon to be four, If I get Airborne.
PS1:
Medal of Honor
Medal of Honor: Underground
PS2:
Medal of Honor: Frontline
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
Medal of Honor: European Assault
PC:
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Medal of Honor: Spearhead (Expansion of AA)
Medal of Honor: Breakthrough (Expansion of AA)
Though, along with what Tural said, I could never find a storyline with such diverseness as Halo. It's amazing in it's depth and secrecy.
