The difference in lighting seems way too drastic/unnatural in my opinion.

Well that is at the fault of the map editor itself. It calculates its own shadows.
All I can control is the brightness and angle of light given off by the sky in this case. Sorry :P

The hammer I used to use allowed very precise placement of lighting colour and angle...I don't see why you can't do it. I doubt they took features out in the source engine (from the hl1 engine).

But yes, the lighting does go against all your efforts.

Try adding lights to the dark places and maybe that might help out.

Alright seeing how I'm in a good mood, I decided to show off the box floaters.

K, well I admit I'm not great at lighting
All I can do is brushwork.
And Cabooses idea might work If I could discover a way to evenly distribute the light... Which I don't know how to do :P
The only light shown there is coming from a sky. None of the parameters shown can make the shadowed area become more radiant. I think there might be a way of editing the transparency of the overhead brush If my friend is telling me correctly.

But anyways...
Looks great, still can't wait for the release :)

If anybody cares, I just got my new signage to animate properly.

Also, in Development, I am on chamber 7. 3 more chambers left to do and it's off to release.

EDIT: Techno-man let me use another one of his ideas. Rising Platforms

Ok, I need everybody's personal opinion on this room. What should I add to it to continue it?

Could you make it so that the ceiling has spikes on it, and the ceiling is slowly lowering, killing the player if he's too slow? :D

Don't know if you can do something like that in Portal, but you could like, add a trigger somewhere, telling it to start lowering.

for that room i would suggesting making the oppening where you have to bounce it through to move. :P that would annoy people.

Thanks for the offer, but I finished off TF2 today. 1000 kills takes too long.

WIP update:
880 of 1000G
94 of 99 Achievements

Achievements remaining:
Lambda Locator
Neighbourhood Watch
Basic Science
Rocket Science
Aperture Science

Wish me luck guys. :)

I never said it was hard, just time consuming. Between not enough matches, and laggy games, I was slowed down dramatically.

I think I'm at 35/45 Lambda caches, but I got Army of Two, so I'll have to finish off Orange Box some other time.

I realize this is kinda an old topic, but, I found something that hasn't been mentioned yet, and just wanted to share. ;)
Probably old news, (I'm still pretty new to the works of Valve), but, I stumbled upon a mod for Portal, and have been having alot of fun with it.

I often wondered, "what if I could have my "Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device", in an enviornment other than the "Enrichment Center"...wouldn't that be fun?!"

Well as it turns out... ALL HL2 map files will load using Portal's "exe". ;)
