Unreal Tournament 3

Post by Kirk »

Beta Demo was released, check it out.

Overall I was actually impressed.

Although it doesn't run on my system (wide range of systems my ass) very good with zeroed out settings, I did manage to have fun both with bots and online with some peeps. Not ususally the case with 90% of the games I've played. Usually it's dull.

So based on what i've seen, they seemed to have gotten rid of some of the UT2k3/4 crap and mixed in some sweet ass UT99 shit (enforcers, anyone? though they aren't as cool :()

The heat ray map is SWEET. War of the World like walkers in that map that are once again-- Fun. That word ain't paired with gaming enough anymore these days.

I'm not saying it's the best game of the year, it really probably isn't. But it's a huge improvement in the unreal category. By far in my mind it's the best since UT99, though UT99 still beats it. My only problem is with the range of systems it can run on. I don't care about graphics, let me play with a high framerate...

Honestly this may be pushing me over the edge into getting a 360. I don't know. My main concern at the start was because I would be getting it for one game, and it's not even that great of a game to begin with. But now that I'm seeing other, other new things, I might be changing my mind.

I would say definitely go for a 360. Right now there's Halo 3, Bioshock, and UT and COD4 are on their way. So, I'd definitely go get a 360.

Yeah. It's a lot more affordable than a new gaming system and the main thing is that i don't have to worry about games running bad... and look good in the process.

Though when I turned my res down to 640x480 the game ran a little better (man does it look like crap though :D)

Runs perfect for me at 1280x1024 with settings maxed (but then again, the beta/demo doesn't have the best textures, so that may not be true for retail).

I just can't imagine playing it on a console...it's a fantastic PC game, very fast paced like UT 2k4, I guarantee it'll have some amazing mods/total conversions, etc.

Game was loads of fun, can't wait for it to come out, definitely pre-ordering so I can get an LCE. :P

I also run mine maxed at 1280x1024. Though not final, It still looks incredible. It will be released for the 360 after the PS3/PC release. You may have to wait a while but Epic says it will be worth it.

I have a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4, Radeon X800 (actually think it's 256MB) and 1GB RAM.

I'm just confirming that my system is significantly lower than yours. This is correct?

And HPDarkness1, if I did get a 360, it wouldn't be for awhile anyway. At least next year. Which really makes me question if it's worth it as I would have to get rid of it by the end of the year (unless I get into boot camp in the summer '09, which in reality doesn't seem that far off). Actually now that I think of it in that light, it seems much more plausable.

Yeah my video card is the big problem here.

Though the even larger problem is that my computer can't really handle a new video card... I'd have to get a new power supply, and then I figure what's the damn point of getting a new power supply if I don't upgrade my crappy mobo, since it's never good to have ONE good item in your computer and have all the rest crap. I ain't spending that much when I could just get a 360 or another console that'll fit my exact requirements for cheaper.

*tries running the game at maxed out graphics*

Actually the game seems to be running a little better now. Even with maxed graphics on 1280x1024, it's running OK. Not great, not extremely smooth like I'd like it, but it's playable. Probably 20-30 fps.
