Skating
so i just started up skate boarding again yesterday. already got my ollies down, and im looking to build a new board. what would you guys recommend i buy? only thing i want is an Almost board.
i was thinking an Almost board, thunder trucks, bone bearings, and Ricta wheels.
my style is street and i like some technical tricks, and i want a light board because my current is a mike oxwelling pro model deck (idk who that is) independent trucks and bearings and wheels i know not of what they're called.
oh and if any of you skaters could give me tips on how to pop high ollies or do a kickflip/heelflip that would be sweet.

I used to skateboard a lot, now my brother does. I made him a custom deck on Zazzle.com, then he bought Thunder trucks, and Enjoi wheels I think, I'm not sure what bearings he has.
I used to go to a park with my friends, and we would practice the tricks on grass or wood chips first. Then we would go to the basketball court because it had a rubber ground, and we would slowly advance to pavement,

Re: Skating
get a thin board, if you get one thats too think then it can be hard to kickflip and will take longer to get it down straight

Not Removing until Prototype comes out. Started 1/7/2009

I used to skate a lot, then I had some serious surgery and I can't anymore.
When you start out make your trucks really tight. It's easier to get pop for flatground tricks and it'll make it easier to line up for grinds later on.
If you feel comfortable with it later, loosen them up a bit.
Make sure you choose a thinner lighter deck, Get good high-quality bearings and worry less about appearance and more about function.
My friend still skates, and he snaps his decks constantly. He gave up on getting nicer ones because it was killing his bank. Getting a blank deck isn't a bad idea, eventually they'll wear out anyway from grinds popping the board up and everything that causes friction to the wood, and you won't be able to tell what it was anyway.

I didn't see the tips part.
The most important thing is to actually try it. Dont stop halfway, just go through with it.
For higher ollies, it's all about popping the board right. Really hit it as hard as you can, and then drag your foot straight up towards the top of the board, then when you get there move it forward to level it out. Don't do both at once, do one then the other. Try kinda crouching in the air to give the board more room to move up, but make sure to "slam" the board back down so you dont land with your center of gravity so close to the ground.
For kickflips, put your front foot so your toe is halfway across the board, pop the board and don't level it out yet, slide your foot diagonally towards the "bump" in the board, and then flick your foot forward and out, so that it levels and flips. Dont flip it down because then the board will go down, and not have as much time to flip/ lower height kickflip.
Watch the board underneath you, and when it's about to finish the full flip, "catch" it with your feet by lightly touching it so that it stops, and crouch when you land.
For heels, put your heel on the halfway mark, pop the board, tilt your foot sideways, drag it straight up without leveling it too much, then when you get near the top kick out and forward, once again catching it.
There are plenty of video tutorials to help you out all over the internet

Don't buy a brand, buy a board. And don't worry about the graphic. Some kids take 30 minutes to pick out a deck based on its graphic... then it gets messed up about 30 seconds later.
From the ages of like... 12-17 I couldn't ollie or kickflip for the life of me. Then I started skating about everyday and I'm pretty decent at basic tricks now. I guess the only tip I have is not to let yourself get discouraged.

thanks for all your tips.
but i am in no way getting independents because i have some now and they are heavy as hell. i sorta want Ricta wheels cause they are smooooth. and i was told that bone bearings are really good. and i'll see what the cheapest coolest deck i can get. hoping i can get it today too.
and ive got a lot of determination to make this work. my friends think im poser and i want to prove them wrong. and i only have a handful of people that believe in me, so, if you care, wish me luck!

i haven't touched my board i forever, but i'd recommend just skating every day and practicing. i can pull a pretty decent ollie, but only because i've practiced it. a good tip for ollies would be to get your feet out of the way of the board, because depending on how well you pop the front of the board up, your feet are the only things really stopping the board.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>
