George Carlin Dies at 71

I would like to be the first to have a topic commemorating the great comedian, and the legend of a generation, George Carlin.

George Carlin's racy comedy inspired many of today's greats, and he entrusted his viewers to use his comedy for more than entertainment, but also to provide insight into themselves. He is best known for his skit, "7 Words you Cannot Say on TV," which propelled him into stardom (and sub-sequentially got him arrested).

Carlin continued to perform to audiences nationwide, including performing on 14 HBO specials, his most recent of which was "It's Bad for Ya.", originally aired in March of 2008.

Carlin had a history of heart problems, as he described to Jon Stewart on "40 years of Comedy," and he regrettably passed away Sunday from heart failure.

I honor this man with being a true icon for my teenage years, and by far, the most original, and impressive comedian I have ever listened to and watch perform. Rest in Peace George Carlin, and thank you.

Uh, do we need a topic for it? I'd already started a discussion in the rant thread. Being fair, we don't have topics when other famous people die.

I apologize, I honestly don't look in the rant thread. With your permission however, I would like to have a more centralized discussion about Carlin himself in this topic, rather than having it caught in another topic.

And as for other famous people, I understand what you mean, but I personally feel that Carlin was such an influential figure (to some at least), that he is rife for discussion and appreciation.

EDIT: In looking, I only noticed 3 posts actually about Carlin in the rant thread. I think people will just continue ranting about other things.

Regardless of how great he was or whatever, I don't think there's much to actually discuss here, except from that it's a shame and that he should rest in peace.

I don't wanna come across as an ass or anything, but I personally don't see the point in this thread.

It's a shame he died, but I honestly didn't find him funny in the slightest.

Why do the good die young!?!? Wait...nevermind...

I loved Carlin and it seems that all my favorite comedians are perishing...(Mitch Hedburg)

Uh, the typical 7 Words You Can't Say On TV? You listed 8 words, so I'm not entirely sure what you're doing. =/

So that's why they never said shit or fuck on Family Guy despite it's '15' age rating?
