Anyone know of a good way to improve perfect and relative pitch? Preferably free.

elaborate a bit more. are you singing? playing guitar?

i read wikipedia's article on relative pitch and i'd say to both practice and do some sort of ear training excercise, like trying to listen to a song, then play/sing it, or replicate it in writing on a staff.

I want to be able to listen to a song, pick out the keys, and then be able to pick up some riffs(guitar). I've heard of programs that are supposed to help you get better, but I'm not sure if they work. I've read contradicting articles about perfect pitch. Some say it is teachable and others say it is somthing natural. I was wondering if anyone here had an experience with the subject.

Perfect pitch is natural; people just have it or don't. To have relative pitch you have to know about chords. Practice listening to what major, minor, diminished, and augmented intervals sound like. If you have a musical background, it should be easy. I have perfect pitch and I can pick out harmonies from music that I listen to. I always had perfect pitch, but lessons in music theory helped me understand chord relationships, which is what you have to know in order to pick out harmonies by ear.
