Which whammy pedal?

Post by Senor_Grunt »

I want to get a new whammy pedal, but I don't know which one would be best to ask for.[Christmas] I heard from a few people that the best to get would be the Digitech whammy pedal. So I did some research.

Click for teh awesome.
Guitar Center wrote:This Digitech Whammy's performance and sound are reminiscent of the original red WH-1 Whammy. All the favorite whammy settings that guitar players covet are available again at the touch of a knob. New Dive Bomb effect simulates a whammy bar pushed all the way to the body of the guitar. Another addition is a MIDI-in jack allowing remote control of effects via MIDI devices. Both type and control are accomplished via MIDI program changes and CC messages, respectively. Wet/Dry outputs are provided. Includes power supply.
Any one have suggestions or opinions on whether or not I should get this one?

Also, the Digitech looks *** rad!

I have a Digitech RP 250 effects pedal, and I love it. It has a pedal for wah-wah, and whammy, and a ton of other effects. It's definitely not as good of quality as that one though.

From the video, that seems like it has the worst sound ever in a pedal(unless you want that sound). Maybe go with a vox. Used by Clapton and I'm not quite sure, but probably Hendrix.

Here is a pretty good clip of it.

Not sure if whammy and wah wah are different, but they shouldn't be.

He uses the pedal the sucky way thats why. lol
I think better 'footage' of it is in this music video for Like a Stone. Tom rocks the whammy pedal awesomely. If that made sense.

The solo is awesome.

I have a crybaby Wah pedal so that VOX is out. There is actually a difference between wah and whammy.

Wow. That video shows it's sound much better.

I did not know there was a difference.

Yeah, there is a difference in the effects.
GuitarGeek.com wrote:a wah is essentially a bandpass filter (think of it as a filter that kills everything higher than a certian point, but also kills everything lower than another point)... rocking it back and forth changes the position of the band it allows to pass through.

the whammy is a digital pitchshifter.
Yup.

They're two different effects. Like the whammy bar on a guitar, a whammy pedal has the same effect, but it does it electronically through amplification. It makes the pitch go up and down, usually octaves. Wah-Wah, on the other hand, changes the actual style of the play, and makes it sound like the guitar is actually saying "Wah-wah", hence the name of the effect.

Ok, so I think I have made my choice. I watched a couple of other videos on the Digitech, and its made me want it. Especially all of the solo's that Tom Morello plays. It just makes me want to make love to the pedal. Plus, I need it to play Jordan the right way.
