MP3 Players

Post by HPDarkness »

Well my Creative Zen just broke, and I have been on an endless search for a good MP3 player. I'm looking for one that holds at least 30gb. Also one that fits in my pocket, Unlike my fathers giant Archos. I've had my eye on a Zune for a while. Do you think I should wait? I usually used mine almost everyday, so I want one that lasts long.
I watch movies a lot on them too, That's why I'm kind of moving away from the iPod. (The screen is too small)

My Top 3:

Are there better ones out there?

Meizu, I have one...Straight up it the best player I've used...However, if you don't take the time to understand how it works (as in reasearch the thing) then you may be dissapointed in the way it is managed. For example, things aren't that well developed: it can take a second or two to change a song, the player creates a list of the songs that are on the player, it has to resync everytime you add, which when you have over 600 songs, can take awhile...

Other than that and a few other things the sound quality of the player litterally shit-s all over the iPod, even creative players (I've had one of them to know, and well who hasn't listened to the poor sounding ipods? ;p)

So the Meizu is a cheap yet excellent choice if your not an idiot with no patience. I'd recommend it...Gotta stress once more that the sound quality is great, which is something that takes precedence over anything with me (instead of usability with ipod and wifi+features of zune). It is also small, yet has the same screen size as the ipod.

If you wanted, I could go into more detail and provide my own pictures, but I don't think that;s really needed...Because honestly the player kicks ass.

But you want storage for your vast song library, then don't get the player, maximum size for it is 8gb... No 16gb one yet.

I love my Zune.

Only issue is the Tagging flaws. It tends to double tag some Objects, and if you have a "Various Artists" album, (i.e. Chrome Children) would tag the album under the artist that made the first track, but then also have all of the other tracks on there from the album, but if you go to another artist, it will have that track only. Another is the "The" and "DJ" listings. "The" Misfits and "DJ" Tiesto would have two different listings, and sometimes split albums.(Elements of Life, for Example, would have tracks 1,4,5,6,and 9 under DJ Tiesto, and 2,3,7,8,10,11, and 12 would be under Tiesto.) The DRM coding really holds it back, but I like it nonetheless. I love that I can have my custom Backgrounds on there, and also the Large screen. The "No Album Art" design is ugly, but a quick bit of tagging, and you got your own "No Album Art" one up. The Black based Screen makes it really hard to see outside in the sunlight. But the Magnetic headphones are cool, but tend to stick to stuff and pop them out of your ear.

I don't really listen to music all that much but I have an iPod Nano...it's alright. A lot of my friends speak highly of almost everything by Creative (mainly the Zen) but I've also heard a lot of good about the Zune too...

Good luck deciding :p

Am I the only one who thinks that the sound coming out of the iPod is good, when you actually have decent headphones? :/
My iPod works perfectly for me. I haven't tried any other player because I haven't needed to. It hasn't broken, and it holds everything I have. Movies on it are fine, but I use it more for bringing movies to my friends' houses.
Pro tip: Don't buy "iPod-compatible" 3.5mm -> RCA cables. Buy normal ones that are probably cheaper, and just plug in the Red cable to the Yellow port, the White cable to the Red port, and the Yellow cable to the White port.

The Zune also seems like it'd be alright, from my playing around with it. I think I'd just rather pay the same (last time I checked) for a player that has cool stuff like a click wheel, rather than something that looks like a click wheel but only is 4 directional buttons.

But yeah...my iPod works fine. Sure, it gets scratched, but if you care that much about a zomg scratched screen (which the scratches look invisible if you have the backlight on, even on lowest brightness), then why are you spending your money on expensive computer stuff...

I don't doubt that it sounds good with decent headphones...But when you unplug them from the ipod into a Sony, creative or Meizu player, you realise that it doesn't stack up. I actually do this, I do comparisons, play the same song and switch between players. I concluded my Meizu sounds best :p

Really? Weird. I've done the same thing, and the same song sounds the same across my computer, my iPod, and my friend's Creative, and the iPod sounds closest to my computer, so that's good enough for me.
And I hope you're encoding using the same encoder for all tests. ;x

Oh of course not! There's nothing like a good ol' fashioned session of bias ;p
Actually, I've never bothered to turn off equalisers =x might be a big factor -SGEE

i've got some crappy sandisk m240. 512 MB. sounds wuality's good i guess, but the headphones that come with it are absolute shit. i've gone through the original pair where the wire started losing the insulation near where it plugs in, which also leads it to where you have to have that section bent correctly or the sounds quality goes down.

My little clippy iPod recently just got some corrupt files on it, and I don't want to take the time to fix it, so I use my old RCA Lyra. It only holds like 256 mb, but it works well, and i've never had a problem with it :)

I had 2 iPods and had problems with the first. The second fell out of my pocket so I'm not much into iPods these days. The first just wouldn't work with iTunes and I didn't want to use RealPlayer to manage my iPod Shuffle.

My favorite MP3 Player is probably the iRiver as it can play videos and music at a lower price and size then the iPod. (2gig I believe.)

I have looked into Zune and other MP3 Players but I don't really need 20-30 gig of space for my songs etc. I don't have that much music. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Zune only comes in 30 gig, right?)

Of the top three you posted, only the iPod is available here in the U.K.

My iPod mini has yet to let me down, well it has today but that's only because I dropped it in the rain, I'm sure it'll dry out just fine.

Well, I guess I don't have to choose any more. I just won a Halo 3 Zune at my local EB Games in a Shadowrun tournament >_> I just walked in to buy a controller and there were about 10 people there and they told me someone couldn't make it. So I joined right in. The Halo 3 Zune has very pretty packaging.

I agree, I still have old computers, MP3 players, and other things that still run great.
