Feel free to discuss the instrument here. Kickin' things off:

I prefer Stratocasters because they're very light in weight, and they are great for funk/rock music, which is good because I'm starting to play a lot of RCHP stuff.

Feel free to argue that so-so makes better guitars than so-so here as well.

I do like the design of the feder stratocaster, but im not a big fan of their pickups or tremolo system. Id have to go with Ibanez becuase you can get a super strat body, which isnt too flashy, the stock pickups are usually decent, and they are loads cheaper. Id say Id like ESP guitars more, but Ive only played on a few LTDs and not on a real ESP. When I get some money Im either going to but an epiphone because Im too poor for a real Gibson, an Ibanez, or a schecter because those are pretty nice too. It also depends, I mean I love my wah and my little sstomp box so my current rig is rather "grainey" and usually only clean in intros, so I dont really need a fender or something like that. They are nice guitars too though.

I'm a big Fender/Gibson fan myself. I own a strat, but I'm working towards a Firebird and Les Paul.

When it comes to Fender guitars, I'd have to say that, in terms of quality, they are the best. Strings don't matter, since you should replace them often anyway, and most people use different strings (I generally use Ernie Ball Slinkies or GHS Boomers), and as for the frets, some people don't play that high on the neck. That's style, not quality. As for the style of music, that has nothing to do with quality.

My first guitar was a Fender, as is the case for many. Fender Squire guitars are incredible bargains for a decent-quality guitar at a fair price. Now, in the mid-price section, anywhere from $400-$1000, you're getting nothing special. But for those high spenders, usually in the $1800+ range, Fender guitars are stellar in terms of quality, customer support, and life. Another reason that I say Fender guitars are so incredible is because of mine. It's taken its fair share of damage, it has a 70-gauge string (my tuning is drop-D, down two steps), and the pickups somehow manage to pick up the string and still sound relatively nice.
(Trust me, that nut took a LOT of modification to fit that 70 in)

Given the choice to buy from any company, BC Rich is my first. I personally own a Fender and two BC Rich guitars: a Bronze series Beast and a Platinum series 7-string Warlock. Both of these guitars are INCREDIBLE. They sound rediculously sick, even better with heavy distortion (trust me, I use enough of it). Their designs are wonderful, and they have a decent warrany service. I intend to buy the Exotic Classic 10-string Bich in a few months.

6-string Warlock

Going off of what was said in the other thread, i think people mistook squire for fender when they said fender are shitty beginner guitars.

Meh, I got a friend you just started playing this year with a squire and a friend who has been playing for around 4 years or so with a fender. The models themselves are very much alike, and with the right rig and such you can make sound almost the same. Also, its all a matter of preference. There are 2 reason why Im not so big with fender:
1. All the fenders Ive tried in my rig I use at home make a buzz when Im not playing due to their pickups and all of the gain from my stompboxes. I mean I could go out and buy a surpressor, but I really don't want to.
2. On the fenders that have a tremolo system installed, I dont really like rocking the tone down pitch. I honestly dont like to use tremolos unless its like a floyd rose or something in which I can pull the picth upand make some sweet harmonics.

Then again, its all about your styles a musician as well. Im not saying Fenders suck or anything because Fedner makes some great guitars. Im just not big on them. Now if I could find an SG or Les Paul with 24 frets Id buy it.

My opinion is Gibsons for guitars, fenders for basses.
As for me, I have a double neck epiphone, fender strat, ibanez somthing or other, and a fender jazz bass. They are all great, exept for the ibanez, which has a bad sound. The neck is also a little wider than most guitars.

You do realize that most Fender guitars with a tremelo use a Floyd Rose, don't you?

Personally, I prefer a fixed bridge, because it holds tuning a lot better, expecially when you shift tunings a lot (I change from standard to drop-D on a daily basis probably 5 or 6 times with one of my guitars).

I still can't wait to get that 10-string Bich... they're so beautiful...

I started out with a squire like everyone else seems to have :P And yeah, I made my tremolo fixed since I'm usually picking with my palm resting on the bridge, unless im strumming or palm muting :X

Nay, I started out with a Squire II. Though my Hand is usually rested on or behind the strings; I've been working on some weird 2-hand forms, so I've been keeping it on the neck a lot.

I started out with the Ibanez Jumpstart kit, I got it a little less than two months ago, and I must say it is a very good beginner guitar. I also like that it comes with a 15 wat amp, strap, cables, headphones, pics, and gig bag and is only $250, it's the best deal for a beginning guitar in my opinion, and to make things better, I'm getting a distortion pedal on Friday. :D If i could get any guitar though, it would be a custom esp guitar, probably with a v body, because those are friggen tight!

I've got to say:

BC Rich for guitars
Crate for amps
DigiTech for distortion

Here's a bad pic of my old setup:
Image
(My distortion pedals are out of view, but I use the pedals with the amp [16 effects] and a DigiTech Death Metal distortion pedal)
The amp is a Crate GLX212 (120watt)

(Left to right:)
7-string Warlock Platinum Series (BC Rich)
6-string Beast Bronze Series (BC Rich)
6-string Stratocaster (Squire)

I can't use the darn thing. It seems that if you can play real guitar, you can't play the game, and vice-versa (don't say that you can do both, I'm well aware that exceptions exist).

I can do both!(if both means mary had a little lamb on an acoustic guitar at an extremly slow rate which would make a kid cry)
