SURPRISE!!!

he's at it again...

this might've been mentioned in the vtech topic, but i haven't checked it yet.

anyways, now with vtech's entry in the record books, and involvement of anybody dying, jack's at it again! flying off half-cocked and blaming videogames for every single aspect (along with a statement by Dr. Phil) he's just having a field day with this, and what's worse is people are listening to him!!

anytime an american is murdered jack thompson is all over the news with his 'links' to games. he's even sent a letter to microsoft about how cho trained on CS: S, and that microsoft knew this would happen, and yet hadn't shut down the servers, threatening to use legal action to shut them down. not only does he not have ANY evidence, but Cho's roommate even said that he never saw cho play games, only typing on his laptop (OMG, HE WAS PLAYING ZORK! BAN ZORK!). and, of course, microsoft isn't even affiliated with anything related to counter-strike-it's developed and published by valve-so mr thompson just jumps at the earliest opportunity to force his views on others without bothering to research or even try what he's condemning.

i'm not usually bothered by people raving about something they know nothing about; i have a strong belief to think for myself and largely ignore what other people say. but the problem is, he's getting too many people willing to follow him. anyone that doesn't understand games (soccer moms and the elderly, just as an example) are pelted with his 'proof' that video games are turning our children into killers, and they're so ingorant, they believe every bit, and jack-o gets his personal mob of concerned parents to write letters to congress and forward his agenda. eventually, this is going to deal harm to the game industry, and something we like is going to be comndemned because the public are a bunch of sheep. i'm afraid if jack doesn't lose his practitioner's license or expire soon, we'll have a crowd of idiots destroy something great.

Dear Mr. Gates:

On Monday, April 16, at 3:10 pm, I was a guest, as I often have been in the past, on the Fox News Channel. News anchor Bill Hemmer asked me to profile the Virginia Tech rampage killer. I did so, noting that until that day the worst school massacre in world history was at the hands of Robert Steinhaeuser, who literally trained on the Microsoft on-line, hyper-violent shooter game, Counterstrike. I mentioned your company

Oh dear God, I so want to prove his point (if you know what I mean : ) )

Cho sent a video, document, and pictures to NBC detailing why he did it. There is no reference at all to any games. He directly mentions various groups of people he hated.

I notice it refers to Halo as a sniper training game. I'd love to see someone 'train' on Halo to use a real weapon. Joysticks are basically the same and guns, right? On top of that, real life has auto-aim and a HUD featuring a reticle, right?

He accomplishes nothing. I can't recall a single thing that has changed because of him. The only thing that sickens me is that he makes a living off this.

Don't forget that real life has no wind, your gun stays perfectly still, and you can shoot with perfect accuracy while in a full sprint.

brb, going to go flip a tank.

i don't think so, and that's exactly my point (the second one). he doesn't even know what he's talking about. he just makes the connection that you can shoot people in video games, and people get shot in real life.

1. wait for an dramatic massacre to deeply disturb the populace
2. blame video games because people will believe anything on CNN/NBC/FOX
3. .......
4. PROFIT!

and about halo "training" the DC sniper, it's exactly like al you guys say, plus the bullet drop and actually working a bolt rifle, as well as calibrating the sights.

the sad thing is, [Old] people believe him.

Actually studies show people that play gun games tend to be more proficient in the use of firearms. Not really aim but from the gey go they know how to load, operate and fire the weapon.

Example: If you play americas army for 3 weeks and they hand you a m16 then you will most likely know how to load and fire it.

If you're some randim kid who's never played videogames then you most likely dont.

Of course they wont be able to shoot accurately or cope with recoil

I'm not agreeing with jack tompson just thinking you are wrong.

You missed the entire purpose of my post and took it to mean I was saying there is no correlation between games and weapons, which I was not.

I saw you say that on this forum to someone else a while back I guess you're easy to misinterpert. nvm >_>

Only this time it was not my inconsistency or lack of explanation, it was your misinterpretation.

The intranets are meant to be misinterperted. :3

Did jack tompson try to blame this on metal music yet? I heard the kid listened to shinedown and other metal bands... That doesn't mean anything, but to jack it does..

I really don't get why he's going on this endless campaign against vidya games (other than profit of course). But it's pretty ridiculous. It's not him saying that video games invoke violence upon the youth, but it's that he takes advantage of the pain of families who have had a loved one die and uses their pain to gain personal power. Total scumbag.

I love that it's portrayed as though violet games always lead to killings. Yet they fail to give statistics. If anyone has the number of users on CS, let me know. We shall then compare that to this one man and blame the game for being so violent.

k? k.

Logic? We don't need no stinkin' logic.

i would like to see said studies.
And also, inserting a clip and pulling the slide back hardly seems like something you need to learn using video games.

I'm wondering, has he ever heard of Postal 2? He's probably going to go nuts when he sees Postal III.

Whoa, that reminds me is Jack Thompson the one guy that said 9-11 happened because they trained with a flight simulator game?
