You have to check this out. This seriously had me looking around and down to see where the sound was coming from. It's hard to explain, so you need to experience it for yourself. It is absolutely incredible!
It will take a long time to load, but it is DEFINATLY worth it.

Oh, make sure you have and use headphones for it to work.
EDIT: I listened to it again, and this time I closed my eyes. I seriously felt like I could reach out and grab this thing! I can't get over how cool this is!

Whoa, that is really weird.
Funny off topic story, Gprime used to host my friend's site before I hosted it for him...they might have a video or two of their's still on there.
EDIT to your edit: Doing that made me feel woozy for some reason...urk.
AHAH! Found a video of my friend's brother pen tapping some three-four odd years ago when that was all the rage...and when he was a tiny little middle school kid.

Old sound is oooooooooooooold.

Biaural sounds are cool...but nothing beats real surround sound...

This may be true; however, only in headphones can you get sounds to not only sound like they're going around you, but you get sounds that sound like they're crawling down you. I have watched many a movie with full surround sound, but this is the first I have ever heard a sound travel both horizontally and vertically.

That's crazy. It shows game makers can make sounds like this, but without making their customers buy some crazy 7.1 speakers.

The thing is, those are sounds that are pre-recorded to sound lower...I'd assume it takes a lot more effort to make sound dynamically shift itself to sound decent on the vertical scale than to simply pipe it through a surround sound set.

Maybe my speakers suck (yeah, these ones do), but it didn't work for me.

Use some dang headphones!
Headphones > Speakers anyway.

Get an XFi, it makes all games and music like this anyways. In fact, it gives a stereo headset the same effect as a 9 speaker surround system.

Old... very old (finally listened to it)
I heard this stuff like a couple years ago, there were a few of them and they were a little better.

Mmmhmm...that's where my opinion comes in. I just got an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer a couple days ago, and it's FANTASTIC when I hooked it up to my surround set. I don't have as dramatic an effect with headphones, but it's still very good.

Yes, but the topic is titled "Full surround sound with only Stereo?", so they are talking about two speakers or headphones, as the main content states. I was comparing headphones hooked to a computer with an XFi, versus one without it.
I have an XFi Gamer too, however, I have a rather old 2.1 Logitech system, the Z-340's, and I can barely tell the difference when I'm not hooked up to my dad's noise canceling hifi headset which cost more than the Z-5300's. (Which I really want)

I know that the topic is talking about how good that technique of creating sounds is...and I was comparing it to real surround sound and how X-Fi itself can add a good element of "Surround-yness" to headphones.

Did you get the rediculously overpriced Gamer Xtreme or the regular board? I got the regular one, there's only like 2 games that use the XRam, although a front 3.5 panel would be nice.

That was nuts. I have my Logitech PrecisionPC Headset on, combined with my Bose Speakers, and the Vertical sounds sounded like someone was shaking a half empty box of Nerds next to my head. That was a trippy experience.
