D.A.R.E. Program going to disappear?

Well, my area has been having money troubles and are thinking of getting rid of the D.A.R.E. program. My question: Do you think this is a good idea?

I myself would rather keep it and get rid of something that is practically useless. I remember last year, we would go to the school auditorium for D.A.R.E. and they would show us slide shows and things and tell "cop stories" about drug addicts. I remember one picture that definitely turned quite a few people into "anti-druggies". It was a picture of a black man's face, and it was incredibly distorted. He was some sort of drug addict (I don't remember what drug) and it just seriously messed him up. He had a "egg nog colored" foam that was draining from his mouth and nose, and part of his ears were deformed. He had his eyes closed and looked like someone had poisoned him, then hacked his face up with dinner utensils. I sure as hell know that I won't be doing drugs after that. (I never have had any interest in them anyways >.>) By the way some girls screamed when they saw the gorey picture, I doubt they will be getting into drugs either.

I agree with you completely. It's much better to live under harsh financial difficulties, even in poverty, than to be a drug addict.

Yes, someone I know that's very close to me is probably going to go to jail for possetion :(

I'd be pissed if they took this out of schools, because schools spend thier money on un-needed things like vending machines and new carpeting for the staff room, etc. Theres this one school near me called Davis High School and they have a little park in the middle (yeah with trees) of the school, and they have this huge splitoff that leads to an enormous pool.

Ahh... DARE.
Still have my shirt.
My DARE officer drove around in a PT Cruiser with a custom paint job and LCDs in the backs of the seats. It had a PS2. It was all purchased using confiscated drug money.

Morning Announcements (I am pretty sure they pay someone to do this, even though it STILL sucks ass. It is just some crapful thingy they slap together, then have it go to these two kids who talk about useless information and then its over))
Dances- full of "hot" chicks who practically give each other lap dances. Pretty lesbo if you ask me.

These two things... suck.. rancid ass.
GET RID OF THEM!!! KEEP DARE!!!

I say your school sells drugs to raise money for D.A.R.E.

I say kill it. It's a waste of taxpayer money to fund something that will be ignored by students. 9th/10th grade Health in California Curriculum has a very extensive Anti-Drug Unit, and no cheesy pencils, shirts, and leaflets that will end up littering the campus.

That's California, though. Over here, D.A.R.E is the only anti-drug program other than just a regular cop. There's so many other things that are wasting taxpayers money in schools that are far more un-important and unneeded in schools.

At my school, the DARE officer was an alchoholic (I was even at a party and saw him drunk) and I'm pretty sure he smokes and I know he is also a huge porn addict. So my vote is throw it out, but because I know not everyone is like this I say keep it. Here, I knowa guy that had to go to jail for drugs, he was a smart guy, but then he started making bad choices.

DARE was pointless, Me and my friends went through it and a good portion are coke heads. Keeping it wont make people think differentely atleast it didn't work in my case, i lost quite a few people to drugs I've lost 2 to cocaine and 2 are in rehab in other states.

The only thing I don't like about D.A.R.E is that they're against marijuana, but it's bad that they are getting rid of D.A.R.E, but money doesn't grow on trees, so I think they should get rid of the D.A.R.E program, if they don't then your area will turn into a ghetto cause of low money.

Whats the moral of the story?

Don't make his mistakes.

*sigh* No one stops to think of things that are UNNEEDED in schools that waste a LOT more of the taxpayers money than D.A.R.E.
And no it won't turn your neighborhood ghetto, D.A.R.E is a really old program and hasn't destroyed neighborhoods or destroyed your family's budget, and if you don't like it, go homeschool because it is an important program whether you think so or not.

Your friends never payed attention and ignored the warnings? Then they are idiots, and your friends arent the only kids in the school, you know.

I dunno why we are even talking about this, this is an elementary school program :?

yes it is, and i hope msot kids on this sight arent still in k-6 school, well anyway all schools in my distric have anti-drug programs, like this one guy that looked like cedric the enertainer, he was pretty cool, he made all these girls cry and he jsut has so many powerful things to say, like your life is a hallway etc. but i dont think schools should ever remove D.A.R.E ever becuase it teachs kids the bad side and even worse side of drugs.
