PC vs. Mac
PC vs. Mac
This thread is devoted to discussions pertaining to the pros and cons of Macs and PCs. Feel free to state which you feel is superior if and only if you state your reasons why and backup such claims with hard evidence.
1. Pc is much cheaper, kind of makes you wonder why Microsoft is the one called greedy all the time.
2. Pc has more games.
3. If someone can afford a Mac they can afford Photoshop which is pretty much the same on both systems.
4. While Mac boasts about there built in software, Pc has a much larger databas of 3rd party programs.
5. People complain about Windows getting viruses, they don't just magiclly appear out of nowhere, if you have a virus chances are you did something stupid like download from Limeware.
6. Pc is easy to upgrade, and you won't have to spend a fortune doing it.

Re: PC vs. Mac
Macsforever, your reply was nothing but opinions, present them as such.xbox7887 wrote:This thread is devoted to discussions pertaining to the pros and cons of Macs and PCs. "looks like ***" is an opinion, you state it as a fact. It is not fact.
This thread is not going to fill up with a bunch of opinionated garbage like that, or it will have to be locked. We are giving users a chance to show they aren't just ranting about their opinions by allowing this thread. If you do not have some factual information or something which you can provide valid reasons for, do not post.
Edit: Your last reply is flat out false. Macs can get viruses. I could say PCs don't get viruses too. Mine don't, because I don't do stupid crap. Any computer can get a virus. I suggest you stop posting these types of replies.

no, theres hundreds of viruses for the Mac.
Thanks to new security updates, it updates the system making the virus confused.
the new updates basically change the OS code.
Then the viruses need to be re-written in order to infect.
Factual yay...
EDIT: my old Mac keeps getting viruses 24/7

Personally, I prefere PCs, becuase Im used to them and because they are easier to work with (IMO). I also own 2 Macs. I use them for other perpuses. But, I do like PCs more since you can fix em up to however you are planning on using them. You could do that with Macs too, but it isnt as practilce. In other words......this didnt really help eithe rside so.... Im going to say PC

Which I prefer better: Both. I run both currently, but Windows more.
Mac Pros (not the Mac Pro, mind you. >_>):
Built in software base.
All of those apps integrate very well.
Easy learning curve without making pros feel stupid.
Good OS core (Darwin [FreeBSD], Mach-O, XNU).
Very open technologies due to that core.
GOOD built in drivers for nearly anything. (I never used a driver CD for anything on OS X, have had to use at least 2 on my new computer.)
More memory-efficient and resource-efficient in general OS.
Relating to that, a very good GUI with minimal usage of resources.
Mac Cons:
Developers (Developers developers developers developers) think it won't generate as much a profit as it really will.
Therefore, less programs, most notably games (in this community's eyes).
Most models are very general-consumer oriented and nonupgradeable (well, RAM yes, but not GPU/CPU/etc).
Windows Pros:
Good software base.
Popularity
That's all that I can think of off the top of my head.
More system customizeability.
Windows Cons:
OS costs more (not OEM, not student, not upgrade, just normal one.)
Too many variants of OS (Windows Vista is a good example), less standardization of that type.
Anti-competitive (Netscape springs to mind)
Popularity results in more viruses, spyware.
I'm open on both sides of this issue. I think a lot of people will agree with me that there is NO best OS. Both have good strong points, and both have glaring weak points.

Microsoft doesn't even make PCs.
As for something MS does make. Their operating systems are very expensive. The Mac OS is only $120, and there is one version with all the functions (Unless you're getting Server, but most people don't need that). On the PC side, there are tons of different versions, all very expensive.

My dad bought an iMac system and it seems pretty neat.
I love the way Macintosh developed their OS; it's smooth, fast, and pretty well rounded. (All the features in it are all pretty extensive.)
With all that said, I hate how there is no support for it. I know there is no support because Windows is like "LOL OUR MARKET," but still, Apple could put forth a little more effort in making their OS's more.. I dunno.. 'developer friendly?'
I love Windows due to the fact that everything in it is pretty straight forward.
It says "Network Places," and that's where it links to. While in Macs you have to find one menu, to find another, in which is a description of the menu you REALLY want to find. >_>
Also, while PC's are screwed when it comes to viruses, PCs have such a wider volume of support, and software.
I am glad that I have a Windows machine, even though the Mac OS is pretty cool too.
Why can everyone just, get along? =(
A machine with the software and support base of Windows, code flexibility of a Mac, and hardware support of Linux would be King of computers.
Just like I am the King of cool.

I own a Mac and a PC, I prefer PC. I enjoy PCs more because of the selection of games. The games you see for Macs are usually more than 2 years old. Most people also say that Macs are better for PhotoShop and Movie editing, I completely disagree with that. I find Adobe Premier and PhotoShop for Windows much easier than PhotoShop for Macs and that iMovie program. But I have been using a PC much longer than a Mac, which is probably why I find it easier. Also every time a new Mac comes out you basically throw the old one out and then you have to buy a whole new one. with a PC all you have to do is buy a few new parts. I agree with Ombre, people who get viruses are usually people who download stupid things they find on the internet. My PC cost only $985.00, An iMac is about $999.00 - $1,999.00, And does not even come close to how good my computer is.
Anyways its all opinion, Some people like Macs. Some people like PCs.
I choose PC.

Photoshop is literally the same for OS X and XP. Also, you can't really compare Adobe Premier and iMovie. One's a pay product, the other is free with the computer. Compare iMovie and Windows Movie Maker.HPDarkness1 wrote:Most people also say that Macs are better for PhotoShop and Movie editing, I completely disagree with that. I'll use your Network as an example. In the Finder, just click Go -> Network on the menubar. EZPLZKTHXBAILOL.Ketchup_Bomb wrote:I love Windows due to the fact that everything in it is pretty straight forward.

But like I said, I like both operating systems nearly equal. Windows may be retarded when I reset my router (it thinks it's disconnected...but it isn't.), but it's mostly anti-competitiveness that I dislike.

I like macs alot more than pcs. Reasons: Well, I've grown up using a mac, so I'm alot more familar with it's interface and stuff. I find macs a ton easier to use than pcs. Also, I know that pcs have better games and graphics, but the same thing would probaly be capable on a mac if some one tried really hard. Now, if only someone would port steam to mac........ That is when you buy it standonline. You can buy a PC with a 200GB HD, 1GB memory, for abot the same it would cost to buy a Mac with a 80gb hardrive and 512MB memory. So tell me, is the Mac hardware better in some way?Kirk wrote:Wrong...Ombre wrote:1. Pc is much cheaper, kind of makes you wonder why Microsoft is the one called greedy all the time.

You're right, it isn't. Tell me, have you heard of the law of supply and demand? It's basically the same thing. Demand for, say, Dell is high, so they can afford to cut costs that are nearly to the break-even point. However, Apple's demand is much lower than Dell's, therefore, to get a reasonable profit, they mark up higher prices.

HPDarkness, Final Cut > Adobe Premier
And yeah, the thing is, you can't get an accurate answer from here... This is a site dedicated to gaming. Since PC's are better at Gaming than macs, it's only reasonable that most people here would prefer PCs. Though I do a lot of editing of movies/filming movies, and I'd say that Final Cut Pro/Express is my favorite editor, which is made by apple and mac exclusive...
