Does size matter? (No, stupid, with MP3 HDDs)

What's up with all these MP3 players these days with more space than my notebook? Seriously, though it's a piece of junk, my IBM Laptop has a 20gb hard disk drive. The newest iPods? 30gb. WTF is up with that?
I'm here to find out how many people really need all that space.

Vote in the poll, that's why it's there.

Do you really listen to and watch all of those songs / videos?
You couldn't even listen to / watch all of them with one charging of the battery. I understand variety, but that much? That's like having every article of clothing in the world just so that you have the option of wearing it, but you probably never will.

I have more music than I listen to now, doesn't even take up 500mb.
With videos, most of which I don't watch, as well as all of the programs I've ever needed, and some I don't use, I am not even using 1.5gb.

I would need the extra space. I use my PSP though and my memory card sucks for it. I cant fit as many songs as I would like. I would love to have a bigger selection on it.

If there would be a CHEAPER and BETTER MP3 Player next to the Ipod people would still take the Ipod.Thats what I hate.

2GB would be way more then enough for me.

and thats why apple has so many models. because some people have a huge music library (like me) and others dont. so size matter too the person whos getting the mp3 player. question solved!!!! :D

Yes, I agree. Apple could raise the price up insane amounts and people will still pay it.

Let me just pop something into the discussion:
Compression.
MP3 compression is old and outdated, and even MP4s aren't very compressed. Think about that one.

(And I don't like that people are disrespecting their MP3 Players by using them as flash drives!)

Yea i could get a flash drive.. But what is an MP3 player? It's a flash drive with an audio output.

WMA compression is worse :P

No it isn't, I've done experiments with it, it's a lot better than MP3 (oddly enough, Microsoft doesn't screw everything up), you just have to configure it correctly. Converting with Windows Media Encoder will give you great results.

Hmm cuz whenever, for say, you rip a CD with Windows Media Player and it's in WMA format, its like 10mb a song.

What version of WMP are you using!?
I've never gotten a 10mb song with WMP, and it rips in MP3 to begin with, plus it doesn't compress songs when it rips them, you'd lose some quality. Whenever you compress anything, you'll lose quality.

I have an 8 gig Creative Zen MicroPhoto, I use 1.35 gigs of that for music. I don't even listen to all of that, I would chop half of that off with music I don't really listen to, but I've got so much free space anyways that I may as well have a little bit of variety in there... Plus i've got a few pics in there, so that puts me at like 1.5 gigs MAX.

Not necessarily WMP I was just using that as an example.

I want an MP3 player that can uncompress the song in milliseconds, so there would be no quality lost :P (Even if it's not noticable 90% of the time)

Ok, get a Pocket PC and Get WinRAR. Problem solved.

Um, did you just
A) ask me to have anal sex with you, B) Suggest that you are taking a dump on me, or C) Pull down your pants and show me your genitals
?
