Views on Censorship

I find the censorship laws in this country to be somewhat high. If something is created to be viewed by the public... then let it be viewed by the public. I personally think that the government is holding us back in the world of television broadcasting by not allowing it to show its true capabilities.
What are your views on censorship?
Im curious to see how everyone feels on this subject.
No this doesnt refer to the censorship as in just nudity censorship but all forms. This is just to avoid any corruption of the topic and nonesuch like that.
Ive discussed this on previous boards. but id really like to see the outlook of some responsible and knowledgeable beings.
Feel more than free to share.

When we have all this V-chip stuff why does anything need to be censored? I'm pretty sure most cable/dish plans also come with Parental Control menu's.

Censorship fucking sucks.
But really, it's pretty dumb. I don't think some things should be censored...like they show (not trying to sound perverted here) a male's nipple, but if it's a female's, it's censored. I can understand certain reproductive organs being censored however.
And words being censored is really dumb too. Or do you mean censorship like this?

That they do Ombre... but the FCC still continues to censor numerous shows and music videos. If we bought the channel knowing what it will show.. shouldnt we get what we expected and not just a bunch of beeps and blurs?
EDIT: LMAO gamer... those pictures are just... wow. I mean all forms.

censorship in Australia is an odd one...things like swearing, violence and nudity is becoming more and more common and accepted...However only if it is staged...things like big Brother (which is actually quite good in Australia compared to America's version of big Brother which people dub "Survivor indoors") uncut show which shows a lot softer things but is classed as vulgar because it is real people....which defies logic...People who fake sex drugs and stuff are allowed but real people who do it are obviously evil people....Like on TV at 730pm on the most watched channels, people say s*** and b**** b****** and radio sometimes says shit...Its horrible that kids who are up at 730 get to see people yell profanities such a s*** on tv...
then on a different note other times on the radio, things like behind and arse and panty and coke (yes the white kind) are blanked out...Yet around two hours later, there are songs screaming "I wanna fuck you all night long"
The thing is though is that the growing gaming industry is being pushed back...Whilst TV and internet censorship is considerably low in Australia, gaming censorship is very high...Anything considered an R rating (18+) is banned from Australia...things considered to be R were games like Leisure Suit Larry were banned, yet GrandTheftAuto isnt...
I don't get it... It seems that mindless violence, the act of killing people without reason, selling drugs, having sex with prostitues and killing them is better for us then playing a game where your just trying to get some action at a colledge...Leisure suit larry is light hearted, GTA is almost serious...
censorship is confusing....I'll say that

I hate censorship. It's just stupid, if people don't like it then don't listen to it. On TV they say it all the time but it is always bleeped out and is just stupid. I will use Real World on MTV. They get pissed at each other and just curse not stop so all you here is a 10 second pause when they are really cursing at each other. This ruins the fun of watching the show. I think that if you don't like it then people should buy the V-Chip so it blocks things for little kids.
@GTAF: I also think that is dumb. A nipple is a nipple, even though some girls have salami nipples that should be blocked because that is just nasty. >_<

censorship is a big topic... i am personaly against the governement censoring us... but i also find that parents would not take the initiative to censor their kids... and lets face it drugs, sex a nd foul lanugauage does not need to be herd or seen by children
a simple solution would be a combonation of the rating system, the v chip, and all channels below 100 should be censored as they are now, however all chanels above 100 should have free rain. theyshould not require a special license or be within certain time limits as they are now.

As far as I'm concerned, censorship isn't a problem in the UK. I don't know of any games, movies or anything else that has been bannned here that was allowed in any other country.
It doesn't really surprise me that a lot of American stuff is censored, no offence but much of your country seem oblivious to what is happening in the rest of the world... a good example of this being my vacation to California in the summer, two days before I was leaving to go home, there was a large terrorist threat at one of the major london airports, whereby British Intelligence thwarted terrorists from taking down planes over the Atlantic with both American and British citizens on board. Now, during this even, on CNN, they covered the terror threats for less then 2 minutes, and continued the news show covering a story about a man that found a 3" rock in a river that resembled jesus... oh and a party for people to dress up their dogs. None of this is a joke. You're censorship needs to be sorted IMO, but then you guys know it more than me, so ultimatley my say has nothing to do with it.

FCC = Not the greatest.
A morning show host from a local radio station here put it best. (paraphrasing here:) "The FCC makes it so I can't say hug. The problem is, you all know what that word represents...your minds will just go out and find what should logically be there. In my opinion, that's WORSE than saying the real word."
I agree with that completely.

we have no banned movies either... however there are plenty of movies not allowed on public television, u have to pay extra
i agree our censorship is outrages especialy things that are politicaly incorrect, but its not as bad as u think...
i live in california and maybe u were listening/waching the wrong news programs, but i herd about that london terrorist thing for a week strait

America just sucks...period. This county cant do anything right. I think cencorship should be in control of the parents, not some stupid orginization that tells you what you should find appropiate for you kids. If you dont want your kids watching a show, block it. If you dont want a kid playing a game like GTA, dont let them buy it. Parents are just to lazy nowadays to do anything, its also why i frequently see people always hanging around at one persons house over others, because their parents dont give a damn about what goes on. They need to take more of a charge in what their kids are watching and doing instead of leaving it to a stupid group. I think that is the only way that cencorship would be less of an isue. OK im done ranting.

I look at it like this-
If you censor something, kids will go out of there way to do/get it. Leave it out there, educate kids on it, and you'll be on a better track.

idk, while i agree that its not the governments job to censor tv for kids... american parents are retarted and there is no way that a 5 yr old should be allowed to wach saw 3, hostel, turistas, or any of those horror movies. fact is it leads to violance, not because they saw it, but parents never take the time to talk to there kids here... in american public highschools there is about a 2 week coarse on sex ed, and 90% of it is telling us to be abstenant. If people knoew more about shit theyed be in less trouble... like i said its a touchy subject, americans are stupind about it and it won't change, the entire scensorship laws changed fairly recently whe jesse jacksons showed most of her tit on live tv... i swear to got i was listening to the radio around that time and there was a woman that called in and was bitching that her 14yr old daughter saw that and that its inapropriate.... idk but i'm pretty sure most girls have tits at 14, its not like shed never seen one before. I hate americas censorship but i do believe that some is neccisary to keep stupid people from bitching... man i'm trying to keep this short but i have alotof stuff to say about it... o well i'm done

Im glad i know im smarter than most parents. Then again im in ohio im surounded by stupid people every day of my life, even more so in school. Also if parents werent to lazy and did educate their kids right then they wouldnt copy everything they see on TV. This includes violence and prevention of always wanting something because the tv makes it look good.

How about Comedy Central? After 1:00 or 2:00 AM, they can drop the F-Bomb all they want until like 6:00 AM. What is the point of censoring those 4 or 5 hours? Are they not just as easily accessible to children as the rest of the day?

You're right, they are more accessible. During the day they are either at day-care, or under the watch of a parent or guardian. At 1:00 in the morning, no one is watching them.
