Churches

Old rant, tell me your opinions.
You know, I have been thinking, (Don't worry I don't think you will need those nuclear suits this time,) and I was wondering about how churches always ask for money, as if they are so poor they have to chew on leather and bark to survive. I recently went to a church, (recently as in half a year ago,) and to my amazement, they happened to be so damn poor that they had 2 elevators for a two story building... Isn't the whole point of church supposed to be not where you have it at but the people you have it with? So why do they need 5 million dollar churches? To what point, when they could feed starving children in Africa or something. Have churches really changed at all in the last two thousand years? From what I have seen, some may have just gotten worse. I swear when I go to some churches all I see in people's eyes are big green money signs eyeing your wallet. Why not just have church somewhere like at a park? Churches need to be stopped getting runned like a buisness and more like what they are supposed to be.

You don't need a multi-million dollar church to have faith, but money makes the world go round; it won't ever change, as sad as it is.
There have been many worst things though, such as Indulgences and The Crusades.

Well, my church gives most of it's money to charity, uses most of the rest to fund missiont trips, and uses the little they have left to fund the inner things. Man, my church has the tightest budget you'll ever see. They suck, but at least they're generous. This aside, I'm somewhat with you Ombre. I'm highly against having so many churches, and several run by greed. All we need is one, but that'll never happen Tural well put. (In a more general perspective.)

The simpsons demonstrated this act when Lisa becomes a Budhist (however you spell it) after it gets bought out by mr burns and sells it to corporate advertisements.
If something can make money it will be exploited...

He doesn't. It's entirely the parent's decision of whether to make their child believe in him or not. Also, It just sets them up for the ultimate disappointment of when they learn he does not exist.

SpecOp, that was a very incorrect statement. I found my faith on my own. It's offensive that you would use your own personal opinion as fact.

It wasn't my experience. I was never brought into those lies. I just assumed It happen to most people because most of my friends learned that way, and I also seen It on T.V somewhere probably. So from my point of view, It's not that incorrect.

Keywords: Assumed, and T.V. Key Phrase: Point of View.
Explanation, there isn't one. Some people fall away from their faith, which some learned from ther parents, other stick to it and believe it for themselves. Just because it cannot be proven to be true, doesn't mean it's false.

Ugh, not once in your post did you mention Santa. I thought you were talking about religion in general. >_> Oh well, St. Nick died ages ago. He was the closest fatty we'll ever have to Santa.

Well, I did quote a post mentioning Santa..but oh well.
But I'm not going to get into that, although I don't believe in any religion, and find it's impossible to have "Gods" and "divine" figures, It's everybody's choice whether or not they believe in them.

Yes, but think about how bad it would suck to be a Muslem. You don't choose that, do or die kind of thing. I'm comfortable with Christianity. I don't get stoned if I don't believe something. >_>

I'm agnostic yet I still think this is the best statement ever.

Don't even get us started on that. No religion is better than any others.
However, I will say that Christianity has some very pointless religious traditions, ie. Santa Clause, Easter bunny, etc.
Especially in children, it seems as though parents are taking away from the values of holidays. I can sure as hell tell you that kids don't like Christmas because it's the birthday of their religion's founder, it's because they get presents.

What raven says is true in some cases about why children like christmas. But I have a neighbor who is very religous and actually does tons of things on christmas like helping and such... He doesn't get very many presents but he says that doesn't matter to him.
