Why I love the Source engine, aside from Havok and graphics.

Quick rundown. I started filming after I'd already cleared the obstacles on the beach, so you won't see that in there, but:

That map is awesome. As the US Army you start in a Higgins boat. After a few seconds the ramp goes down and out you go, onto the beach. Pity there's a plane roaring over the beach dropping bombs along the length of it... Once you get past that, you'll notice a bunch of huge craters. So you run past one, and all of a sudden there's a distant boom, and a howling sound... SMACK! Shell flies over your head (you can actually see them in flight) and absolutely pulverises whatever is in or near that crater, and knocks nearby soldiers off their feet (you can see this in FP too, your screen jolts 90 degrees and hits the ground, then slowly recovers, and you can hear yourself gasping for breath as your heart thumps loudly). Keep moving up to the barbed wire fence blocking your way (the shells continue to crash into the sand all around you, no telling where the next one might hit), run up to the red smoke markers and you'll automatically plant an explosive charge. RUN. You'll yell out "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" just before it goes off and wipes out a whole section of wire, also leaving a sizeable crater. Keep going up, and you'll see a wooden wall jutting out in the middle. Plant a charge in that by standing in front of it, and run again. BOOM. Debris everywhere. Keep going, clearing the trenches and bunkers (the lights flicker with every shell explosion), then run up and lay charges on the artillery. BOOM. Radio tower. BOOM. It explodes and collapses into pieces of broken metal bars. Capture the German fallback point, and you win.

That was with NO other players. Imagine this with 16 per team, MG42s and snipers up in the bunkers, and you're beginning to imagine how this would play out.

Oh, and guys? This is a custom TEST MAP I found on HL2files.

I love you, Valve.

3rd Inf. for the win. One of the ex-members actually plays and realised that Valve used his unit's markings for the US soldier, so he made a more historically accurate skin that I use. Only bad bit is the inside of the helmet.

I can't wait until they implement depth of field and motion blur. :3

Honestly WW2 fps's are WAY too overplayed now, seriously how many can they release? It's history, no new stuff so its the same crap over and over, the only WW2 game I found really fun was CoD2. BF2142 > all other next gen fps's to be honest :D

What can I say, I just love WWII.

DoD needs to be converted to Vietnam though. So you can like, call in napalm strikes and stuff. Mmmm.

GUYS!

Check out dod_strand_b4!

It's like the one in that video, but A SQUILLION TIMES WINNERER.

Working elevators, Flak88s, massive bunker systems that honeycomb the cliffs, everything. The only things I don't like are the way none of the guns have crews, and the shells exploding on the beach are pathetically underpowered. Otherwise, looks sweet, plays sweet, and makes a great showcase for what your average Joe can do with the Source engine.
