What is up with modding today?

Off topic chat. Basically anything that doesn't concern halo or halo modding can go here.

What is up with modding today?

Post by JK-47 »

Ok, I payed my weekly visit to the files forum today and I went to the Halo PC section and what did I see? Pop corn popping off an apricot tree...no

But all I saw was...well... Tron skins, projectile/log mods, crappy skins, and only a few decent models. I'm sorry if I offend anyone here but I am seriously sick of this endless cycle. I used to sort of like logmods and projectile swaps, but now there are no good mods being released. Rossmums mods broke the chain, but the chain started back up again. Some of the experienced modders are mostly all too lazy to either:
Mod
Help newbs

I havn't made a mod in a while, I admit. In fact, I've never really released any mods at Halomods, but I'm willing to start making some mods if other people bring out some challenge in the competition. Which is why a MOTM would be really awsome. But seriously, we should get off our asses and make some mods...

Pm it to me please :)
Don't worry, I'm not the kind of person to flood a site around forums and stuff so its easily going to be kept with me.

Newsflash: The cycle of noobs and nooby mods started a year ago. It's nothing new.

I still got some to work on, I might start later. Maybe I can break the chain for another day or two.

Face it, not alot of people go further than the for fun projectile swapping stuff.
They see friends do it, and halomods is the most common name for it. They go here to learn that, and most likely won't progress any further.

I got the urge to try my hand at modeling again, so I think I'll work on some models and maybe post a mod when it's done. Which would be at least a month probably.

If its for not posting at gbx your welcome  .

If it is for the new map: Thank you. :)

Been working on it since late August. I've had a friend do all of the beta testing which means that when it is released it'll be at least 50% free of all bugs. :D

It was for people saying I'm skilled at something other than screwing stuff up, but I can't wait to see your map. You're the official coolest new member ever, by all means post on GBX :)

Oh and by the way guys - it's testing time.

The reasons I started modding Halo(after quake 3) are:

-stable engine at that time
-use of 3ds max
-way more flexible

I think to this day this is one of the best modding engines.HL2 still doesn't use 3ds max and thats what I dislike.HL2 has way more stuff though.

Hammer seems like a fairly easy program to work with from what I've seen, never tried it though.

I don't mod anymore because of these reasons.

1. I have done a good bit of stuff and i got kind of bored.

2. I don't have 3ds Max and i got Gmax to only work for me once. :(

3. I can only mod PC because i really don't wanna risk getting banned from live on halo 2.

Once halo 2 vista comes out then i will start up modding again.

I agree, once H2 Vista comes out and I make a new PC and buy it, I will begin to hard core mod H2 becuase h2 xbox modding right now is more like hacking it. H2 Vista will be SOO much easyer becuase you will be able to fly around in real time to look at everything, and make your own BSPs, tags etc. without having to worry about what that unknown varible does.
