ways to bypass filters (and other good know-how) UPDATED!**

ok, i read the filter bypassing thread below, but it's dead and seems to have gone on too long to be helpful, so i'll list the ways i know how to get past filters here:
- Filter methods
- DNS blocking
- intro
- how to bypass
- how to get to the command prompt
- How to get to the command prompt
- other ways to get where you want *

--DNS blocking--
-intro-
The way the internet works is, yuo're computer connects to one of a few different servers that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has, then you're fed through to the internet. You're web browser "browses" the internet by taking you to a web site on the server you designate, now when the internet was young, there were less than 20 "web sites", so anyone browsing it would just type in an IP adress of a server, and be taken to it. but now with over a hundred thousand (and explosively growing) web sites, it's just a bit more difficult to remember dotted quad ip adresses (127.83.342.80) so we use DNS servers and URL adresses.
the DNS server takes what you type into you're web browser (www.google.com) and matches it to an IP adress in a large list it has, when it finds a match, it replaces the "www.google.com" on the header of your information packets to the correct IP adress so they go to the right place, and get the right information sent back to you.
Now, because the DNS server will recognize both "www.ebaumsworld.com" and "4.78.57.70" as the same thing, typing either of those into the URL bar of your web browser will get the same site. Now, school DNS blockers use a "blacklist" of sites to check with every single info. packet sent to and from the school. If the header of an info. packet contains something that matches the list, then the info. packet is destroyed en-route. Here's how you save your precious info. packet's life (sometimes) and get to nearly whatever site u want...
-how to bypass-
open up your web browser and type in the Ip adress of the site u want to go to (u should probably get this while you're at home, but if you REALLY need the IP adress at school, scrol down a bit to the "how to get to the command prompt" section). Then, thanks to a deficiency on the school's blacklist and the magic of DNS servers, you should get to your site without a hitch.
Now, when i go to ebaumsworld.com (or want to) i type in "4.78.57.70/index2.shtml". Why the /index2.shtml you ask? well, part of it has to do with a sort of "undoing" that ebaumsworld.com does when you use the link on the homepage to get to the index, so i just put it there for it by adding the "/index2.shtml" on the end of "4.78.57.70"
as a side note to help you understand what i did, just think of you accessing the web site on your end ("4.78.57.70" or, "www.ebaumsworld.com") and then what it looks like on the server's end (probably something like "C:\"). So, basically, "www.ebaumsworld.com/index2.shtml" is what you see, but the server sees "C:\index2.shtml" (a simple file right on the hard drive, not in any folders) This is basically to help you see how it works by comparing what you see when you're browsing the web to what you see when you look at your own hard drive.
-How to get to the command prompt-
Need that IP adress at school? well, any smart IT technician will block the command prompt from students so there won't be any disk formatting (DO NOT DO IT AT SCHOOL EVER) otherwise, get it through the start menu (pretty simple stuff, start>programs>accessories>command prompt)
If it's blocked (it usually would be) you can get a different one from inside the hard drive, here's how
go to the hard drive ( "C:\" ) then go to the "WINDOWS" folder (that should be "C:\WINDOWS\") and inside that, the valuable file "command.com" (now the file path should look like "C:\WINDOWS\command.com") open that, and you should get an unblocked command prompt (how useful, hehehe...)
