The Official Rant Thread
I'm with ragdoll...
Ever since the merge, any applications have been overlooked...
Back in the peak of modding it was great and exciting to try a new application, even if it had no new functions. Now even if someone released a great app, no one downloads or even comments really..
I would say it would be possible to bring it back... But even with Custom BSP it will never be the same. You won't have like 30 new and enthuisiastic people joining to mod Halo 2 everyday like you used to, you'll probably just have SOME older members...
Because those new and enthuisiastic people are now playing Halo 3 or Call of Duty, which are very great games... And it just takes away from Halo, makes it have less of a spark. They wanted something new, and now instead of that new thing being modding Halo 2, they want to see Halo 3 or Call of Duty.
Now that isn't the exact case, But I know alot of people that used to mod, stopped as soon as Halo 3 come out...
Its just dieing and I don't think it will ever be the same...

As Iron_Forge once said, nothing will be the same as you remember it. Things change.
Halo Modding will live as long as there are people working on stuff for it.
I like Halo because its probably the only dev kit you can use without having a masters degree in puzzles (not many pieces; ie, I thought that CryEngine2 would be awesome, but like source, it is a fucking beast to tame, and I won't have time to get the basics down before summer).

If I could mod Halo 2, I would definately give you a cookie. Researchers like you are the way forward. Why can't modding be what it used to be; finding out new and exciting things? Back in the day of my plasma rifles...JacksonCougAr wrote:This is a simple rant but its sort of annoying to release an app that does something that has never ben done before, and have almost nobody download or reply to it.
HUD Colours? Done.
Shader Colour Effects? Done.
Recognition? Nope :O
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.
I have found many new thing about halo 2 mapfiles released tags, lots of tuts etc and no one has used my tags or done something using my tutorials atm but i know someday it will help someone.
There as lot of people that still mods they just don't get a finished mod, don't ask why, we all know why, when you are motivated and start makeing a great mod you get GREAT BUGS in your mapfiles.
Now i know there's a lot of unreleased info and apps outthere, and the fact that those who discovered it or made it are not interested by modding anymore is not a reason to not having released it :/
Those who say it's not worth to continue if when i post a mod or an app or a research i don't get replies, wait what?
WTF are you modding only for fame?
Do you really need a lot of people to thank you? if there only one person to mod and that person thanks you that's at least good, new apps are always welcome.
The prob is that mods are not played, why don't we just all play mods every saturday night?
At least some mappacks such as, Killtrocity, RAIR... that at least would keep people playing mods and maybe bring em back to modding , specialy if we play new mods why the new stuff that has been discovered.

If you want the truth, I think everyday more and more people become lazy.
People want weather and water in their maps, but they don't want to have to go through all of the work to get it there. Also, what if they do everything correctly and get blackscreened or it freezes?
Many think it's too much effort for such a low reward.

Its Funny. More and more it seems aptly named. Prometheus. The bringer of fire to man...and... to us at least, the fire would be the invigoration of Halomods, give or take,if not at least a spark. Its a pity they haven't released a version one. So much work...I wonder if its for waste.
Change is such a Cruel B***h. I wonder how we will deal with it.

"You know what I'd like to be? I mean if I had my goddamn choice, I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all."
or should I?
2 kids ambushed another kid, proceeded to stab him, kill him...And fucking saw off his fucking head...
They're blaming the game hitman for this. While I personally cannot see any link to the game and such an act (since you can't do those things in the games), it is in a sense starting to worry me that I'm reading about so many kids doing incredibly stupid things like this. And then of course insert rudimentary game blame (hehe).
I don't fully understand it though, is blaming games a scapegoat? Do all the other criminals get away with these things if they say its from games? Because I don't see why this fingerpointing would do anything or achieve anything at all.
this may have been around at a time where I was more ignorant to the issues but really, in a way I would have preferred not knowing...
The news is probably really old, possibly even posted here
but regardless, i just found it.

I'm back from my trip to KSC, and holy shit. We had to replace the whole fucking radio. It was brand new too! The insides of the thing melted because the fan shorted out on the first day. Me and 2 of my co-workers had to work outside in the pouring rain, it rained for 4 days straight, and hard too! One of these giant radios is bigger than your dishwasher, and weighs around 200 pounds, so we had to work our goddamn asses off.
EDIT: Dual rant, what the fuck happened to my avatar?

Some idiots decided to come into my work and look around the store 20 minutes after I was supposed to get off. I had to stay and keep an eye on them because they looked pretty suspicious. First off, one of them was rolling around a box of used ink cartridges (he was also told not to come back the last time he came), for god knows what reason. And the rest were just.. odd. It didn't look like they needed anything, but wanted something.
Yes, thank you. I would love to stay here for an extra 20 minutes doing nothing after 8 long hours of doing what I've been doing pretty much all day.. Nothing.
