The Ultimate Gaming PC
Don't even think of the Pentium series anymore. They are mainly lower spectrum, even of current Gen games. Go straight for the Core 2 Duos or an AMD equivalent.
EDIT: For Counter Strike Source, you don't need much to run it. I have a P4 3.0GHz Processor, 1.5 GB RAM, and an ATi X1650 Pro Graphics card, and can run everything at high on CSS with 40+ Frames at least. All of that for under $200. for Crysis though, Prepare to bank more. Don't even bother get a killer "Gamer" Toss up case. You're paying 80 bucks more for 30 cent lights, and clear plastic. Just get a cheap generic ATX off brand case and mod away at that. Make sure your cooling system properly takes in and exhausts air and moves air over and away from key parts. My first case I had when I built this rig was a throwaway from an office that was downsizing, and I took it home, got a dremmel, and a few old power supplies and cut the fans out, and use those to cool it. That thing cooled wayy better than what I have now. this thing overheats like a beast. I have to put a Occilating fan to keep shit cool in it. Keep it simple. Don't pay too much for small things.

i suggest getting a AMD processor and ATI video card, i've heard that with AMD systesm the memory controller is stored in the processor not on the actual motherboard so when you do upgrade your processor in the future [which im sure you will at some point] youl also be upgrading the system in full.
AMD overclocking seems like a smooth ride to me compared to Intel.
i still have a old AMD athelon 64xp and that runs very well, runs halo at around 50FPS.
for ATI i suggest getting the ATI 4850HD it seems the rival the Nvidia 9800GX2
the 9800 280 has 264 processors where as the ATI has 800, you do the maths.

look, i've decided not to buy online and instead buy from a local store that say they can top the prices hosted at BOTH those sites, I'm going to check it out this sunday and if my parents are nice enough they might give me a "loan" and i'll pick it up
BTW is AMD Athelon 64 better than Pentium or as good as Core 2 Duo?
its just that they have this really good combo online at Tiger.ca

yea i think i have a pretty good setup now, and since its SLI enabled, i'd be retarded not to go with an SLI video card... so i got the XFX GeForce 8800 384MB DDR3 SLI enabled Video card... the only thing im conserned with is the DDR3, so im goin to check that out a bit.Xeno2 wrote:That looks like a pretty good system and if i remember the athelonx2 processors are on par with the C2D cpu's.
Personaly, i would go for that bundle and build from there.

but thats like $100 more, why would i do that? its not that much better, and AMD works well with some people, thats like buying a DelMonte apple or a local apple, ones more expensive, but they're both apples...
it turns out that motherboard there is weird and doesn't support sound so i have to buy a sound card... pity

I really suggest getting the AMD as intel although is being blogged as better, really isnt.
i have a core2duo 2.66ghz E6750 myself and i can attest to the difference between the athelonx2 and the core2duo which isnt much the only real difference is the price.
