Oh yeah, my additional happiness is I got about $120 in birthday money. Added to my existing cache of $80, I now have about $200. Plus, I went part-hunting on Newegg, and I'll be able to build a great system with a 2.4GHz Quad core CPU and Radeon HD 3870 for about $1200 (including a monitor).

Im sure you can save money by getting a powerful core 2 duo rather than a quad core cpu...unless your looking to really try and future proof.

You don't need quad core...a dual core 2.6 or higher is fine.

EDIT: Woot. Posted my Escort on Craigslist. Now to wait for buyers.

My mistake. I was referring to Valve instead of Portal. I read Portal has Valve in hurry.

Yey, the combined total of all the parts of my computer is $1433 including shipping, the monitor and the speakers! Shipping's $30, the monitor's $190 and the speakers are about $20. Plus, I found a 2GB kit of memory (G.Skill) for... prepare yourself...
