Some times only, mostly it was a line of like washed out color near the top, but sometimes it multiplied and killed my screen. Still I say you send it, its a REALLY fast service If I were living in the states id have it back tomorrow.shadowkhas wrote:Was it that it flickered like mad when opening and closing the screen? Hopefully they can fix my network card issues too. :/

Re: Computers
I need another opinon.
Question:I have the option of getting a Intel Core 2 Duo T9550(2.66GHz) or a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000(2.00GHz). Which is faster?
Its conflicting... 2.66GHz is faster then 2.00GHz, but, a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 is technically faster then a Intel Core 2 Duo T9550. My Brain itches.O_o

Re: Computers
What do you plan on doing? If you have programs that you know are optimized for multiple cores, or plan on really future-proofing it, I'd go with the Quad. But if you do basic gaming at most, do the 2.66.
That's my understanding, at least...

Re: Computers
If you run lots of programs, or programs that are designed to use multiple processors, then the quad core is faster. In the future, the quad core will be faster in my opinion, as software becomes more and more geared towards multiple processors.

Re: Computers
aaah, we just finished putting together a custom rig today when I found this, might as well tell you guys, we started with a old gateway performance series with a Intel Solano 82815 chipset, equipped with a Intel Pentium III @ 1GHz (1000Mhz) then added 512MB of RAM, it has a Creative 128 PCI soundcard (with a gameport!) and a ATI Radeon 9250 with 128MB of RAM, it's a AGP 8x card with DirectX 8.1 installed. features two harddrives, one is around 20GB the othe is 8GB, the machine dual boots Windows 2000 and Windows 98SE, (on the seperate harddrives.) Also has a DVD-ROM drive. runs really fast, and plays all the games at pretty high resolution/details.
We put it together to play all the old games we have around, (C&C generals, yeah!) and other things, like word processing, some image work, etc. Has no internet connection, doesn't need one ;D Oh yeah it's got 19" LCD monitor @ 1280x1024
That is all.

Re: Computers
dropping in here to say I just scored two computers from my neighbors. They were throwing them away, so I nabbed 'em, and brought 'em inside.
The one is a dell optiplex gx270, which i've seen in every school i've been in. i'm fairly sure the motherboard is fried though, because when I power it on the power light stays orange, and it doesn't even POST, and refuses to respond to the power button being pushed.
The other is an even older HP vectra VL with a pentium II in it. I've yet to test it, but i'm sure it's got something wrong with it as well.
and sadly, neither machine had their HDD left in them. at least I can still troubleshoot with a live cd to determine what I'll have to fix.

Re: Computers
Hey, Wanted some input. Not too computer oriented. Here are the specs I'm looking at:
Harddrive:
Western Digital Caviar GP WD5000AACS 500GB 5400 to 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Case:
RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply - Retail
Motherboard:
EVGA 113-M2-E113 AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
GFX Card:
EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
RAM:
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail
CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor Model ADH5050DOBOX - Retail
Is there anything else I need? Someone told me I should look into a 750W Power Supply rather than the 500W because of the video card would take a lot of power. Also, I'm not sure if all this stuff goes together. I got the ATX mobo and Powersupply and case so it all should fit. I just don't want to buy it and I'm missing something and the pieces don't go together. Can one of you computer people confirm it for me? Thanks.

The PSU will be fine. Don't you want a disk drive, though...?

Re: Computers
I have 3 dvd drives already. I just ordered the parts. I dropped the harddrive since I have a 320GB SATA drive, I'll buy another one if I need one. I dropped teh GFX card and will just use the one on the motherboard. I'm not going to use it for extreme gaming. The total price was $315 with a $40 MiR, so for $275 give or take, I'm getting a dual core 2.6 GHz processor, 500w PS, 320 GB SATA, 4 GB DDR2 RAM computer. So that should be decent enough. + my tax return money will cover all thisshadowkhas wrote:The PSU will be fine. Don't you want a disk drive, though...?

Re: Computers
Yeah, if it's just a computer for some light games, that sounds like a great setup. Although the Intel processor for that equivalent price would be better (in my opinion), each of them have their own ups and downs.

Re: Computers
If you do eventually get a HDD I would recommend the Black edition.
