That wouldn't be the best because it only has 2 memory and pci slots. Plus if your going to waste pci slots your better off getting a mobo that supports SLI but I would recommend having at least two PCI Express x16 2.0, not that bs one being x16 and the other x8.

And for your OS you should know were to look to get xp or vista  Keyword: "Corporate"

is it ok if i downgrade to Pentium Dual Core?
i just found a pretty bad-ass motherboard thats crossfire supportive, but its kinda pricey and I'm also trying to keep the price down to afford a monitor from a local store.

yeah get a dual core >for now.< they should do you good until the games that use quad cores come out. and i recommend Nvidia gfx cards cause i just prefer them but since im not one to tell you what you want tell me what you want and i'll build one with a card from ATI or Nvidia. but i tried building a pc with that budget. its HARD to make one with that budget. your gonna have to cut down on the case price and some unnecessary features/parts.
i like to say i know what im doing but i wont, but i can definitely give some advice on stuff.

all right
heres a challenge for anyone
i want a computer that has Intel, Crossfire or Nvidia, i just cant seem to care, i want multiple PCI x16 sockets for an upgrade to my video cards if i choose to do so (count on it) 2gb of ram is nice, and my hard drive doesn't need to be too big, just don't make it Under 100 gigs (i've had to live with a 30 gig computer now for about 4 years, I'm sick of it) try and find a case that looks bad-ass, and if you can, find a 500w power supply if its included, if you have to buy a separate one then make sure its 500w+ (info from crytic)

oh it has to be all under $900 with shipping and taxes (if your not in canada you can use my postal code[L0S 1J0], just don't come to my house or else i'll be forced to be a gracious host  )

heh, i just found this really, really old computer monitor in my attic, looks like i can save $$ after-all! idk how its gonna fit on my desk tho

EDIT: ok i just turned around and i got a cheap (but fairly decent in my eyes) motherboard and instead got an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU and it still fits my budget, and i switched over to nivida... again...

If you want the ultimate gaming pc your gonna have to spend more than $900. but you can get one that can play games like halo without problems for that much.

urgh im at 925.. and if your gonna play some intense games then your gonna need to O/C (over clock) so PM me the games you'll play or just post here if you want. if you overclock that'll set you over your limit. plus buying a case will set you back farther.. so im working on it.

Halo PC/CE, Counter Strike:Source, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Quake 4, i might get Crysis, other games i cant think of right now...

overclock... really? i mean, i hardly know what it means, but damn that adds like another $100 to my computer... *muffled swearing*

ok i will accept maybe about $50 room over, because that can be inherited in about a couple weeks, but anything really pricey and i'll kick a baby...

EDIT: ok heres my current setup
  • BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC2 Video Card - 512MB

haha right i forgot about the mac thing. well i think i have the build down! and its a pretty shmexy deal!

EVGA 9800 GT $182
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 $189
XION DAZL Mid Tower Case + 500 Watt PSU $85
Asus P5N-D Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI, Socket 775 $195
Sea Gate Barracuda 7200 RPM 320GB $73
LG Super-Multi Security DVD ReWriter 20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R $29
ZEROtherm / CF900 / Socket 775 (CPU cooler) $48

Subtotal: $807.91
S&H: $29.93
Tax: $108.93
Total: $946.77

and with that GFX card you need to O/C or else your GFX card will bottleneck your CPU which then would lead to poor performance

sorry it took so long but i had school and it was late. hope that helped you. and i is jealous cause my dad wont let me get a custom build PC.

Yeah, an Intel Core Quad is unnecessary. I bought myself a Duo and I'm very pleased with its performance.
