Or they could just apply the most basic laws of physics, and stop worrying.

i had a bad experience around the age of 12, i was at my friends house, and i woke up at about 1:00 in the morning to get a glass of water. when i went to the kitchen, everything seemed normal, i got my glass of water, went back to bed, and woke up 5 minutes later to go to the bathroom. upon opening the bathroom, i heard a large crash come from the inside of the kitchen, i ran to go check it out, and there was nothing there, and i proceeded to move to the bathroom, quickly i might add. as i was about to flush the toilet (my hand wasn't near the flusher at the time) i heard a STRONG masculine voice say right in my ear "GET OUT NOW" and i was pushed. as i turned to see what it was, there was nothing there at all. i looked in the mirror the next day to see if there was any marks from being pushed by what i believe to be an apparition, and on my left shoulder, continuing down my back was a dark red handprint. it was the size of a babies hand, and very noticeable. i ran my own tests, EVP, FLIR, EMF readers, they picked up nothing. that's my experience, so i do believe in them.

Ghosts are caused by the absence of people. Most people that see ghosts are alone. When one is alone, one imagines the company of others. When their mind creates a person, they think its a ghost. The power of suggestion. Lets say you are looking at the cover of Ghosts of Onyx and I tell you in the back of the cover are two people staring at you. Two humans..Man and child staring at you with lifeless faces. I'm not making that up. Now, if you look at it, the though is in your head and you will want your mind to see it. If I never mentioned it, you may see something different. I actually walked around showing the cover to people and only 1 out 5 actually saw something without me mentioning it. The rest thought it to be something else. When I told people about what I saw, 5 out of 5 saw it. Probably a bad example though. Anyways, what I'm getting at is that you are not born with the thought that ghosts exist. If no one ever mentioned it to you, you would never think anything was happening. Nothing would ever haunt you. Now I know people will counter me by saying "Yes..That makes sense, but a friend and I both saw the same ghost". Once again, the power of suggestion. Was the mood ripe for ghosts? Did you watch a scary movie together? Were you talking about ghosts? Did someone tell you a story? When two people claim to see the same thing, there is usually a leader. One person says "Did you see that?" and the other doesn't want to look stupid and says "Yeah. What was it?". The first person says "It's a ghost", and the second imagines he saw it now that he knows what he is supposed to see.

Anyways, those are my own thoughts behind ghosts.

Locke has a very good point but there are some occasions in which are just strange, and can't be explained with science.

I beleive in ghosts, but in a different way. Im a catholic and beleive in angels, and I beleive that ghosts are angels sent from god. I read a very interesting book on the subject of the afterlife callled "The Hereafter". It analyzed the different views of the afterlife of different religions and nationalities and how they have evolved. It also had a section devoted to ghosts, and another devoted to life after death and out of body experiences. It was also packed with scientific evidence that both proves, and disproves different theories on the subject.

i believe in gost because i saw my grandpas in the bathroom one time i havent seen him since age 3 i saw the ghost at age 12 i was alone and he lived in that house for 30ish years
but one time i saw a show that said with high amounts of electromagnetic fields the hows absorbs gostly stuff or sumthing like that faster so its more likely to be haunted and the people in the haunted house lived close to a radio so their house was haunted

I've never had an experiance with ghosts and I don't want to... but my mom says her I think grandma (so my great grandma) has. BTW this is way back in the tymes when people bragged about their super strong horse that could carry their whole family and their belongings, and how it cost a whole $5... well here goes.

So my great grandma goes to the general store one day (ok maybe this could've been my great great grandma :? ) to buy some milk or something, and starts walking home after getting it. It's a long way back to her house, like a mile or so, and she's pretty tired from the walk there. So she notices her kind next door neighbor, (I'm gonna make this name up I can't remember his real name) Mr. Brown, going by on his wagon.

He notices her walking with her small load of groceries and offers to give her a ride home. She says "No wai stalker!" um I mean "Sure! Thanks Mr. Brown!"

So she jumps on and he drops her off at her house. Her mom (my grandma I think) is amazed by how quick she got home, and asks her how she got there so fast. She of course replies "Kind Mr. Brown dropped me off".

Her mom gets a confused look on her face and says "No wai! That's not possible!"

She replies, "well why? He was just going by and offered to give me a ride."

Her mom says "no, that can't be true... Mr. Brown died 3 days ago."

[/ghost story]

Please be amazed and bewildered.

Although Rain, I loved your story. And Xiion, that doesn't seem likely, but if it really happened nice story.

I've believed in ghosts since I was like 10... I mean, there have been tons and tons of stories about them, and I think the likelihood of having ghosts among us is very high.

Err... If ghosts do exist what makes you people so quickly to assume they can't harm you? What makes you think they are even really ghosts? They could just as easily be demons for all you know. Blindly believing ghosts exist is no different then following a religion. Yes, people have claimed to see ghosts. People have also claimed to see angels and demons, and I am sure even whole groups of people have claimed to see the same angel(s) and or demon(s). To believe in the possibility of ghosts is also to believe that angels and demons could exist, and thus God and Satan could also exist. (Who people have also claimed to see.)

Our doors for some reason get locked and unlocked without anyone doing so, and lights and doors will be open when no one's home.

how do you open a light? :|

doors opening are the easiest of paranormal myths, they can be a simple door hatch problem, or the wind. if your lights turn on, or your door gets locked/unlocked, it is most likely that a certain someone is a tad bit forgetful >_>

yea, but i remember once I went into the kitchen to get a muffin. After I got my muffin I got out of the kitchen and forgot to close the door. I turned around to close it and then all of a sudden it just slammed shut, Like if somebody threw it. That was freaky.
