From what I have been hearing, even legally ripped or online-purchased music is affected by Vista's DRM technology. Not to mention other things. I only download music that is released as download-only (like in the underground and nerdcore scenes). I do also rip my CDs onto the computer, but if I had Vista, it wouldn't let me use those files if they are DRM protected (I have a couple of DRM protected CDs that I am aware of)
I'm not having a hard time finding anything about it on Google (I'm using the search term "DRM Vista music" [no quotes]).
The thing is is that it's illegal to use open-source media players (along with using them in "non-approved" OSes [I'm thinking they are lumping every one ,besides Windows and OSX, into the "non-approved" category]). This right here hurts people that prefer to use open-source software, like me (I don't really like proprietary software, but I do use it when needed).
So from what I understand, Vista's DRM is way deeper than just downloaded content (stretching out to hardware and media players [such as the iPod] would have to work a lot harder at checking content bit by bit, which can use up battery life faster, and also may prevent Vista from using certain hardware devices).

Xlink Kai: n1ghtsn1p3r. I'm not very good, but I play for fun.
I can tell you from encoding dozens of CD's to FLAC with Vista, and obtaining many discographies while using Vista, I have not once had a problem with sharing the files with someone else's computer, ripping my CD into any format, (Not with WMP of course!), or playing anything I have ever downloaded. If there is a difference between XP, the I have not noticed the obviously minor discrepancy.n1ghtsn1p3r wrote:From what I have been hearing, even legally ripped or online-purchased music is affected by Vista's DRM technology. I'm not sure what all this DRM stuff is... but it's not affecting me in any way.
Also, this clears up any other myths you may believe...

That means home premium would only use half my processor, which means I need the next version up, (or ultimate, I can't decide if I want the media center or not.)In fact, all versions of Vista will run on a machine with multiple processors installed--but Home Basic and Premium will recognize and use only one of the processors.
EDIT: oh wait I see, it does that for two totally seperate CPU's, it will recognize dual-core processors.

I call that eye candy.Myth #4: The only thing new about Vista is the eye candy [further in the same myth]Changes to Windows Explorer make it easier to organize and view your files, with more options. For example, you can see thumbnails of all files (not just graphics) and view their contents in the preview pane without opening them
