What ppl have failed to mention here is that Goergia is a major American ally. They are the third largest force fighting with us in Iraq. President Bush has already spoken about this and Americas take is that Russia must cease fire immediately and go through mediation. This means were on Georgias side. If Russia doesn't stop and bush takes this seriously then yes this could very easily escalate to WW3.

P.S. for those who dont know. The gist of whats goin on is as follows;
About 10-15 years ago Russia took over about half of Georgia and since it has been pretty much run by Russia with most of the citizens being Russian. For a while now Georgia has been building up forces to take back its country from Russia. It finally had built a significant force and opted to join NATO. This made Russia angry so Russia made a plan to take over Georgia. A week or so ago Russia attacked a few of Georgias Air bases, such an act is unacceptable in the 21st Century and Russia is now going to be in a lot of trouble when it comes to the United Nations. Georgia pulled its troops back from Iraq and is now fighting Russia. America is a major ally to Georgia and Bush demanded Russia cease fire and enter counseling from the U.N.. Now were waiting to see what they do.
Don't be.

Wrong. Georgia instigated the conflict and thus NATO refused to assist them. We have no standing alliances with Georgia either. They're on their own, and they're ****ed. WWIII? Don't make me laugh.

Check the headlines. Russia instigated it when they attacked Georgias Air Bases and Bush already spoke about this the day he returned from the olympics. DO NOT correct me when you have no clue yourself.

Here ill save you some time;

"Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," Bush said from the White House just an hour after he returned to Washington from attending the Olympics in China.

Russian forces moved into Georgian territory on Friday after the Georgian army launched an offensive to bring South Ossetia , which broke away in the early 1990s, back under government control. Russia says 2,000 civilians have been killed.
(South Ossetia is a city in Georgia.)

US President George W. Bush, Georgia's main Western ally, on Monday made his biggest condemnation yet of the Russian assault in Georgia.

"Russia's government must respect Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty," Bush said.

If you want Further proof, I suggest yahoo.com.

I love how the very source you cite contradicts your point.

Also, condemning something doesn't mean we support the victim militarily.

Can you directly cite such a contradiction? His description sounds pretty accurate to me...
Yahoo, the aforementioned source wrote:Russia dispatched an armored column into the breakaway enclave of South Ossetia on Friday after Georgia, a staunch U.S. ally, launched a surprise offensive to crush separatists.
Georgia tries to reclaim South Ossetia.
Russia tries to stop Georgia from reclaiming control of South Ossetia.
Georgia claims to have shot down Russian planes.
Russia pushes forward past the point of acceptable involvement or something.

I fail to see why you italicized a portion, then said the source contradicts him. It sure would seem like you're saying that portion was wrong, which would be incorrect, which you would know if you had actually looked at the source you, yourself cited.

As for an Update on the whole thing, Russia agreed to stop however as of today its being reported that Russia was BSing and is still attacking Georgia.

Georgia was preparing to take back South Ossetia
Russia started the attacks
Georgia's military shelling South Ossetia doesn't sound like "preparing."

From what I can tell, in the 90's South Ossetia was all "We're independent!" and everyone else said "No, you're Georgian, sorry." Now Georgia is all "Stop that!" and shelled the bejeesus out of them and then essentially proceeded to occupy what the UN says is Georgia's own territory. Then Russia, who is friends with South Ossetia, and bigger than Georgia, told Georgia "stop it!" with their tanks and fancy airplanes. And then proceeded to pwn them hardcore.

Honestly, I think Russia shouldn't be involved, but I also don't think that Georgia should be messing with South Ossetia, as Georgia clearly didn't realize they were sticking their dicks in Russia's ass.

I don't think anyone else is going to get involved unless Georgia or Russia decides to invade them too.

I'm rooting for South Ossetia.

Who cares?

Honestly, Russia and Georgia wear big boy pants, so they can resolve this by themselves.

Its just another little squabble that has been blown out of proportion.

WW3 OVER!

Overall, it was a nice world war. I look forward to the next one.

Anyone else think that the Kremlin are the bad guys from Donkey Kong Country?
Nato said Russia's withdrawal announcement was "not enough" and that it deplored the "disproportionate" force used by Moscow.
I'm with NATO, Russia is too big, and it's just not fair.

Sanford Kong defected to the Kremlin, he's gonna take over the world. Because you see, there's Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, some of the weird guys like Cranky Kong, then there's straight up Sanford Kong.

A little squabble that has left over a thousand innocent civilians dead.

Doesn't matter though, it's not in America right? And no American troops have died.
