I'm not really sure where I stand right now.
I'm anti drugs and all that, but I feel that if we do legalize it, it'll bring down some of the stupid shit that goes on because of it.
To me it just is irresponsible to do it. Just like smoking cigarettes or drinking... it's just irresponsible. There's no positive outcome of it other than a SHORT mental "wtf?" and to me... that's not really worth the negative effects.
My four best friends through middleschool got into drugs in the beginning of highschool... They pretty much didn't care what else was going on, and when all they ever wanted to do was just sit around and get drunk/high I distanced myself from em. None of em are goin to college now... I know that's not the case for everyone, but it's just my experience.

Re: Marijuana debate
First of all, I have found that there is nobody who does more research on the subject (biased research, might I add) than marijuana users. Secondly, to use the argument that "it's not as bad as alcohol" or "It's better than cigarettes" is a horrible argument. It tells me that all three of the above-mentioned drugs should be illegal.BEEF!!! wrote: 1.) If you don't know what you are talking about, DON'T POST. Do a little research before you go and post false statements.
That is all for now.

Considering a Staff member made the thread, and several of us have posted, I have to say I'm fine with the thread, so long as it doesn't get out of hand.SHOUTrvb wrote:Technically this thread is against Halomods Rules, but it's really up to the Staff to decide if this should stay.
Rule:Do Not:
Discuss things which are illegal. (Warez, drugs, etc)

Honestly, give people Mary-Jane. Its like preventing frat boys from sitting on the lip of the tailgate of a truck on the highway going 90 mph. I'm in favor of anything that stupid people can use to kill themselves (usually by abuse).
Oh, and of course, I agree with the point we should tax it, but not so much that there would be a revolt.
People will do anything you forbid them to do. I had an idea for school supplies that I realized would be great for kids but schools would ban, and then I realized that that was the perfect marketing technique.
People don't do Mary because its dangerous (some would argue for the "high", though), but mostly, like all human reactions to law and rules, its rebellion.
Make it legal, and there is no reason to do it. People will go to alchohol or some other illegal substance.
*questionably intoxicated themselves

That is the most idiotic Lie and a common misconception. Want proof? Look through 2 or 3 different health text books. I have noticed myself that each one will say a different number of cigs. Ive seen a joint is equal to one cig, ive seen a joint is equal to 2 packs. The truth is this isnt proven by any scientific means. If it was I assure you theyd use it in anti-pot commercials. However they dont say anything negative about pot in the commercials because nothing bad has been proven about weed and saying something that isnt true is slander and they would get in trouble. Probably even sued by a Pro-Marijuana group for spreading slander. Thats why the worst the anti-pot groups have to say is an alien will steal your girlfriend... >_>hiheyhello wrote:lies, actually 1 joint is equal to 10 cigarettes. I do think it should be legalized because alot of people do it, its been handed out by doctors for treatment, i forget which condition, and in general so many people do it, its practically impossible to stop.noscottno wrote:cigarettes are worse.
Don't be.

While one of my friends was dying of bone cancer, he was allowed prescripted doses of a special type of cannabis. It allowed him to pass away in relative dignity and peace.
In other news, many British policemen give warnings to cannabis smokers to fill up their monthly 'quota'. They are in fact wasting time on useless instances like that because it's easy and they have to.
I also agree on the 'People will do anything you forbid them to do' idea. Sure, there may be an initial increase in the use of the drug if it was legalized, but the novelty would soon wear off.
All I can say right now, is that more tests on the long-term effects of the drug should be carried out so that we are aware of the health problems before we make any big decisions.

I believe that's where it's still illegal, but not enforced. Am I right?V0Lt4Ge wrote:what would be the difference between decriminalizing and legalizing it?
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.
He asked the other staff members before hand whether or not he should start the topic. His reasons seemed reasonable and thus it was permitted, but under strict conditions.SHOUTrvb wrote:Technically this thread is against Halomods Rules, but it's really up to the Staff to decide if this should stay.

This is permitted as a discussion of legality, not drugs. If it was "Hey, do you like pot?," it wouldn't be allowed. I've already removed one post of a member admitting to using drugs however, which is being enforced in this thread.SHOUTrvb wrote:Technically this thread is against Halomods Rules, but it's really up to the Staff to decide if this should stay.

The difference between legalization and Decriminalization is that when it's been decriminalized, There is no jail time or record associated with a first-time offense. This is disputed state to state, so check the link in my first post on the topic. Theres major contradictions though in the law on weed. Federally, it's tagged with Jail time and massive fines, even for smaller amounts. I'll use my own state as a example. California'sPossesion laws are much more lenient compared to the Federal laws.

I've never done any drugs. I think Marijuana should be legal, It doesn't affect people the same way as any other drug really.
The only problem is motivational issues and school. I'd say close to 40% of kids in my school smoke weed, and they are all terrible at school they fail miserably. All they do is talk about how they got high, and how they don't give a shit about school. I only know one kid, he smokes it every couple of weeks and he maintains A's and B's.
So the only problem I see with Marijuana being legal is issues with school work, and youth. But then again, it's their own fault.

That's how it should be. A treat, like whiskey or Macdonalds.HPDarkness1 wrote: I only know one kid, he smokes it every couple of weeks and he maintains A's and B's.
