ModChip Resellers being raided by DCMA?
That's a good way to discuss things. "It makes sense, but I won't explain the reasoning." It does not make sense. Why are you restating something I already said, and thus failing to answer my question entirely? Let's recap:Xiion wrote:what i said makes perfect sense, and not just to me. you just fail to understand it.
You: Busting resellers makes personal users look bad.
Me: How does busting resellers affect personal users?
You: They busted resellers.
What?
because they are at the potential risk of being arrested for purchasing such goods. since it is now considered "illegal" to distribute modchips in general due to being able to run back ups on the xbox through them, the DCMA considers everyone who buys one a pirate, so it makes us look like we are the criminals, even if we don't have backups or illegal apps and warez on the XB HDD.
that's all i have to say.
that's all i have to say.
That may be true, but i would only consider it illegal to even own one if it is preflashed with a hacked bios, such as the LBA42 bios that allows to format 240+ GB harddrives. If I did own one, which i hope to soon, then i will most likely use an M8 Bios, for legality reasons. by purchasing the product, it is technically yours, you own it, it is your property, and you should be able to do whatever you please with it. if it is a copyrighted product, then why bother selling it? It was made by Microsoft, they knew that this would happen eventually, and this is the only way that they think they can stop us.
Wow.
First of all, you don't decide what's legal. So it doesn't matter what you consider to be illegal.
Second, just because you own something does not give you the right to do whatever you want to it. You own the product, you do not own the copyrights.
Third, the "Well, they knew it would happen" thing is just a horrible, horrible point to make. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything. That's what the laws are for, because they know people will do these things.

I am trying to keep from making anyone angry, or misled by my own comments, but I am not so good with words anymore... I can only hold an intelligent conversation when being asked questions that I understand.iGeo wrote:I'm going to go ahead and lock this, before myself or Tural explodes... unless you guys want to start posting intelligent stuff.
i can see why selling pirated software is illega.....i also see that making backups maybe illegal.
but i was under the thought that once you buy hardware you had the choice of doing what you like with the hardware as long as it dos'nt involve backing up or copying software.
say for instance is opening up a xbox illegal?
is removing a memory chip from a xbox illegal?
if any of the above answers are no then why is installing a chip that can expand the capabilities of the console illegal?
