mod chips are illegal period. You could be charged, but I don't think they would go as far as arresting you unless you were being uncooperative.[cc]z@nd! wrote:i don't think i get this, so modding your own console is illegal? i thought it only voided the warranty? so if i were to mod my xbox my soldering a chip onto it i could be arrested/charged? how's this work exactly and what did the guy do that was illegal?

Not Removing This
Other create it and design it, copyright it, they have the rights. Apple went around with cease and desists for the OS X aqua theme for windows and they also did the same for the iPhone GUI for windows mobile was it?bricksarefun wrote:We cannot allow this to go on, it will only be a matter of time before they shut down HaloMods, HaloMaps, xbox scene, and any other modding sites. We must do something against the DMCA and/or the large corporate companies that control it.

The overwhelming ignorance is this post is disgusting. Yeah, we should totally fight the government and make everything legal, fuck copyrights! No. That's a horrible idea. Just no. Seriously. Also, they won't be shutting down these sites.bricksarefun wrote:We cannot allow this to go on, it will only be a matter of time before they shut down HaloMods, HaloMaps, xbox scene, and any other modding sites. Live modding has nothing to do with it.Andrew_b wrote:Well...we should be fine. He was probably modding XBL was he? I cant read those papers because i dont feel like reading them (and alot of you probably didnt read the whole thing either).
Anything that circumvents the copyright protection is technically illegal. Modchips and softmods alike. However, it would be unimaginably unlikely for an individual to get in legal trouble for personal use of such a thing. The person in this thread was likely not just doing it for himself, he was probably selling modchips, or offering to mod consoles, or something. I don't believe he was just some guy modding his own console.[cc]z@nd! wrote:i don't think i get this, so modding your own console is illegal? i thought it only voided the warranty? so if i were to mod my xbox my soldering a chip onto it i could be arrested/charged? how's this work exactly and what did the guy do that was illegal?

I don't know the guy, but I'm going to say that was totally un-called for. People like him are what back websites like us up. Without modchips and such, where would we be? Also, people like him are likely in quite some trouble right now.... I don't see what's funny about people trying to help others mod video games getting in deep shit for what they do.0m3g4Muff1n987 wrote:Holy ****! That guy got pwned. I'd say that around, oh I don't know, 100% of the people I know with a modded xbox pirate games. It would be ignorant to think that even most of his customers were getting a chip to mod games.I don't see what's funny about people trying to help others mod video games getting in deep **** for what they do.

REST IN PEACE, HMC
