That is true, you can build a better PC. How much more will it cost, though?Xero wrote:Hmmm you can build a custom pc that has specs better then the best Mac that you can buy Halo 2 Vista is for Windows Vista PC and so many games for the pc that are not on the mac.
PC>MAC
Currently, the best Mac you can get is a Quad 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon-based computer, with 16GB of RAM, 4 750GB SATA drives, 4 nVidia Geforce 7300 GT's (but they're separate, or you can get a single Quadro FX 4500), 2 DVD DL capable drives for $15,739.
Apple did a comparison with stock models at WWDC '06. One of Apple's bases was around $300 cheaper than Dell's.

I feel the opposite way. I prefer PCs for their professional, business-type feel and look. Macs are just too "relaxed" looking for me (Also the reason I hate using any theme other than Windows Classic.JunkfoodMan wrote:PCs Are better for Home use
Macs are better for Buisness or Graphics use.
They each have their pros and cons.
IMO, Macs = PCs

I do virtually no video/audio/anything editing, so I'm useless in comparing the software capabilities of those types on things on each platform.

I agree with Tural. PC's are better for business, as they are cheaper, and most business programs such as Microsoft office don't require a very fast computer to run. Therefore, if you just want a computer to run your basic apps, then PC's are probably better. And, as many people have pointed out, PC's have a much wider game selection, so if computer gaming is your thing, then PC's are also a better choice for you.
However, I think for a family computer, or for pretty much anything in the media business, Macs are superior. Now, bear in mind, this is a video game modding website, so most people here have a more expansive knowledge of computers than the average computer user (especially older people), so while viruses and spyware may not be a problem for you, they are a big deal to those who don't know all the technical steps needed to prevent them, so for a computer that will be used by an average family, without superior computer knowledge, I would recommend a mac, because they are generally far more secure and reliable. In addition, iLife makes many general tasks very noob-user-friendly. And as far as interface goes, I personally think OSX has a way better interface, but interface superiority is all opinion and pretty much just what you are used to.
Also, as shadowkhas pointed out, Photoshop is basically the same on both systems. I have used it extensively on both OSX and windows, and it is basically the same, but as far as music and videos go, macs are way better. Macs are pretty much the standard for video and music production. As Kirk pointed out, comparing Adobe Premiere to iMovie doesn't make much sense at all seeing as iMovie is free with a new computer. It would be better to compare iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, and I think most people would find iMovie better. Or you could compare Adobe Premiere to Final Cut Express/Pro. Express is cheaper than Premiere, and still has most of the same great features, and Pro is more expensive, but it probably the best video mass produced editing program out there. I think most people would agree that Final Cut is way better than Premiere. Also, for non-linear editing, Shake is an amazing program, and its only $500, and Adobe makes After Effects for mac too for those of you who use that program.
Also, in professional music production, which I doubt that many of you deal with, but Logic Pro for macs is amazing. Or if you just want to do it for fun, Garageband is really easy to use and tons of fun to play around with.

I'd agree that PCs are better for business... to a degree.
Pros:
They're cheaper for what you need.
Simpler, to an extent.
Cons:
Most people at work aren't as cautious as people like us. Viruses are a big problem. You hear about it every day. Macs don't have this problem currently.
And just for the record, I really hate when people say "PCs are superior to macs because there are more programs." While that's a somewhat valid statement, it does not make the PC better in any way... Think about it. I generally try to have my whole argument revolve around that.
EDIT: Tunes, you are absolutlely correct. Comparing Windows Movie Maker with iMovie is like comparing Paint with Photoshop (well, to a little lesser extent ;p... as a person who films and edits movies regularly and has used WMM, I can truthfully call WMM a piece of shit)

Well its not necessarily that PC's are better for developing themselves, its just that most people choose to program for PC's because then they can reach a much wider percentage of people. However, as far as developing on both Consoles, they both have their advantages. I have done a few basic programs on both Windows and Mac, and they are very different, so its hard to say which I like better. I wrote some simple programs in Objective-C in the Cocoa environment, and I wrote a few simple things in VB.
The Mac counterpart to Visual Studio is known as Xcode, and the .NET mac counterpart is Cocoa, which supports C++, Objective-C and Java code. Although these languages have are more difficult than VB to learn, they are much more powerful. As far as C#, I have never used it, but from what I've read, it is comparable to Objective-C in many aspects.
So therefore, its not that Windows is necessarily better for programming, as far as ease of use and features, its mainly that people choose windows because the majority of computer users are on windows, so more users can use their programs. Although, like Detox said, you can always use Java which is compatible on most OS's.

It seems as though the main arguement for PC's is that they are good for gaming...So for someone (like me) that dislikes PC gaming, it would be reccommended that I were to purchase a mac in future times?
And for the sake of argueing with Doorm4n. Portability? Whilst the new Mac Pro has a handle, the cheesegrater's design is quite huge!
I guess its ok considering it can have 3Tb and 16gb of RAM but still

If you're getting a laptop... get a mac. Laptops aren't really good for gaming in the first place, nor can you really build a laptop the way you can a desktop. Plus, you can always install windows on the newer ones... It's a no-brainer for me. Their price range is pretty wide too (~$1000 for cheaper ones, and ~$2,000 for the more expensive ones. There really isn't a huge difference between them though, other than a being slightly faster and a more powerful GPU, their screens are a little bigger too.. though if you're into gaming, wtf would you buy a laptop for.. buy the $1000 one ;p)

I started my computer today, only to get an error that all of my system files were corrupt. I had no idea why, so I called tech support. Long story short, I had to find my Windows CD, and repair all the files.
The whole process took 3 hours.
Windows has a lot of flaws like that, but I still like them better.
