Do any of you guys play skate2 ? I got my skatereel right here, and I'd appreciate it if you would rate and comment on them.
The right ones are pretty lame kind of funny and the left ones are serious lines.

How many newtons of thrust did that thing put out? What propellant?MarsMartianMan wrote:Testing my own rockets at home, tons of fun.
And I like the Gemini Spacecraft-esque design

Re: Do You Tube?
I used black powder as my propellant, and I didn't measure the amount of thrust. By the way, most of the reaction was uncontrolled because nozzle blew out. I also have another rocket video where the engine is mounted onto a rocket with it's own flight computer (made by me of course), in front of an audience, too!

Daaaaaamn! I always wondered how you retrieve those things after launch. I always lost mine after the first launches, which is probably because I used a first stage "E" engine, and a second stage "D" engine. With that kind of thrust, they just kind of disappear.MarsMartianMan wrote:I used black powder as my propellant, and I didn't measure the amount of thrust. Hmm... Black powder. Have you ever tried Zinc dust and Sulfur? That's what Homer Hickam and his crew used.

Good Jesus, that's livin' the high life! How big are your rockets if they can support a flight computer & GPS tracker?MarsMartianMan wrote:I use my own flight computer with built in GPS tracking, and a parachute.Yodel wrote:I always wondered how you retrieve those things after launch..

Re: Do You Tube?
Pretty small, I'll post pictures of my latest rocket later (please keep in mind I had to disassemble the computer for one of my other projects).
Re: Do You Tube?
I used to build model rockets-- it was a big hobby of mine --but an increasingly tight schedule combined with the climate here makes it hard to find the time. The snow rules out most winter launches (is it possible to launch in the snow?), and a summer day with no wind is hard to come by. Plus, there aren't many large fields nearby to launch from.MarsMartianMan wrote:Pretty small, I'll post pictures of my latest rocket later (please keep in mind I had to disassemble the computer for one of my other projects).
Though I think you (and Homer Hickam)have inspired me to make a few schematics! I think I might whip up a guidance system program in PBasic while I'm at it. What sort of GPS receiver do you use in model rockets, anyway?

Re: Do You Tube?
I use a MN5010HS in all of my rockets, but the power source I use (12 volt N-type) has a high draw and only lasts around 20 minutes with all systems on.
Re: Do You Tube?
What did you use for a flight computer? I'm thinking that I'll use a Parallax Microcontroller from a Sumobot. It's reasonably fast, I already know how to program it, and there are GPS and Accelerometer/Potentiometer daughterboards available for it online. The only thing that worries me is the size. It's 3" by 3", and has a hefty 4 AA battery pack, on top of the weight of the boards and servos.MarsMartianMan wrote:I use a MN5010HS in all of my rockets, but the power source I use (12 volt N-type) has a high draw and only lasts around 20 minutes with all systems on.
Maybe we should continue this coversation elsewhere. It's getting a bit too long and off topic for the Youtube thread.
