i read up a bit on the filipino insurrection, and started seeing the similarities quickly.
here's my opinions on this, seeing as i just came into the conversation:
starting in the beginning, i thought bush was fine, although i wasn't into politics at all. now that i think about it, 9/11 was awfully convenient to get the public riled up. thinking back to a short paper on propaganda i read, it mentions convincing the public that an evil force is attacking them, out to destroy their way of life. this puts them in a defensive mode, and gives them a stance on things, so they can see it in black and white. they're the goodguys, attacked for no reason by the evil foreigners, out to destroy their very way of life. then all someone has to do is come out and show themselves to be a strong leader, and the people will willingly follow, letting their leader make the hard decisions for them.
thinking back, it seems that bush did just that, leveraging 9/11 to get an invasion of iraq approved. we'd seen 3,000+ of our fellow countrymen innocently slaughtered on live tv, and our president tells us those same people have nuclear weapons? we were worked like putty.
leaving off of the iraq war, now we've had invasive laws passed simply because we were told it was to keep the terrorists from winning. there's the patriot act, the department of "homeland security", and the still-active tapping of all foreign communication. hell, there's even centers built by FEMA to house "illegal aliens" inside existing military bases (although i need to double check this, i read this a while ago.) and although it seems unrelated, RFID passports.
i guess that's it for my opinion, i'll sit back for a bit now and catch up on this.

i apologize. personally, i'd prefer you argue/debate with me instead of just being fed up with the thread. i only read back one page instead of the whole thing, so i don't know what's happened.noxiousraccoon wrote:[your post was terribly offending.
also, something i forgot to mention, i've heard some things about the US moving closer to war with iran. i've heard the government was interested in it a while ago, and coming back from a 2-week vacation, it seems things are progressing towards war, but i've got to go back and catch up on things.

That's a whole other can of worms that's been getting all serious business lately...if other people start posting about it, I'll let you guys discuss it, but let's keep this more to Iraq for now.[cc]z@nd! wrote:also, something i forgot to mention, i've heard some things about the US moving closer to war with iran. i've heard the government was interested in it a while ago, and coming back from a 2-week vacation, it seems things are progressing towards war, but i've got to go back and catch up on things.

here's my opinion on whats happening in the government right now. more people in power then were lead on to beleave are in this with bush, its just those people in power aren't willing to come out and say it. they just covered there tracks and ran from the fight and the lies and made them selves look innocent. bush thought he was gonna have more people in the spotlight then there are, so he now is over his head and his name is being trashed into the ground because of it. i think the real plan was the government wanted bush out and they didn't care what happened to innocent people and are army's, they don't give a shit they wanted bush out and no chance at all of coming back. theres always something were not seeing with these types of things i think this is what were not seeing it was just a setup for bush to walk into and he walked right into it.
(sorry about grammar if its not right i did the best i could plus i got fire fox doing spell checks)

Guys, listen, I've solved the whole war-in-Iraq thing!
Iraq never had Weapons of Mass Destruction they had Windows Mobile Devices. Saddam had an iPaq. It all makes perfect sense.
... But in all seriousness, I don't give a @#$% about politics. The President will always screw something up, no matter who they are, no matter what their party. I don't want to try and influence anyone, or provoke anything. I don't really have an opinion either way with the war in Iraq (was it justified or just stupid? I don't know, I don't really even want to know).

Indeed. I don't like how it's been twisted as "progress," just because a couple good things happened.Danke wrote:Petraeus Claims Major Progress Following 'Surge'Slow Progress Being Made in Iraq, Petraeus Tells Congress
I mean, we only got 3 of the 18 goals met...and they want to draw back 30,000 troops? If they do that, it'll just be a crappy cycle of putting in and taking out troops.
