Buying a computer

I've seen a lot of threads recently about people wanting to buy or build their own computers. I was watching a thing on TV the other day where they said that if you want a custom PC but don't know how to build one, get a computer shop to make it for you. This actually sounds like a good idea to me, since I don't know how to build computers (hell, I don't even know how they work). So before anyone says any shit about 'oh build your own computer it's x y and z', is a customer built PC a good idea?

As long as it's cheaper than factory built ones, easily upgradable, etc. then it's a great idea. But I built my own PC this time last year without any previous knowledge on how to do so, all you have to do is search tutorials on youtube. They're all really good. It's how I built mine really.

A couple hours of your time spent researching it and knowing what safety precautions to take is worth more.

my only advice do not do water cooling if it is your first time. Other than that research, hell, use a screwdriver and see what your computer looks like by just removing the casing. Its pretty simple once you actually get all the parts because shopping for the coherent parts for me is the trickiest business of it. Its kinda of a really expensive lego kit when you've got all the parts ready to be assembled.

I agree with all the above posts. The only problem with building your own PC is that while it's technically cheaper on a part by part basis, there's always the urge to buy that little bit better piece...
