Getting parents to buy a Garry's Mod server for me

Post by Kewlkyle64 »

Alright, I already made the really fancy graphs and stuff that mean nothing. Now I have to find a way to get my parents to actually pay for a server. So far my friend has suggested that I could do the dishes (yeah, I probably should be doing them anyways but I get let off easy). Can you guys think of stuff I can tell them I'd do? Preferably, stuff that sounds really hard but isn't.

Get a job, or use an old box.

Start doing extra work that's really noticeable, like vacuuming, then plant the idea that you want something just before grades come out. They'll be kind of leery at first, but once you run home and show off your nice shiny grades they might change their minds.

Also, buy a crappy old PC and turn that into a server; don't get a monstrous tower. Your main PC can host a game, and the server doesn't even have to display graphics.

Depends on the hosting service. It's usually per month, but there's also options for annual fees.

What me and my parents do to trade off something, is I do good in school and they'll help me out in paying for it.. they usually come half way (if I have a job, anyways). If you are already getting good grades, then I don't know what to tell you other than get a job.

Save them thousands of dollars by not going to collage.

List of weekly/daily chores in exchange for server:
-Clean the Dishes (If you have a dishwasher then load/unload)
-Take out the Trash (Kitchen/mainroom/bathroom) Just do it whenever it gets full.
-Do the recycle (if you recycle). Just put it all together in the bins or whatever.
-Take out compost if you do compost.
-Clean up after the dog/cat/pet. As in shit.
-Mow the lawn every couple weeks.
-Do misc yard work or cleaning of the house.
-Do naked pushups on the coffee table.

Oh, did you want to rent a server over the internet or have a machine at your house? The second option is probably cheaper in the long run, but takes more effort.

I do all of those (except the last one) for free. This makes me very sadface. The point is though, if your parent(s) are soft enough to pay you for household jobs (not 'chores', damnit! :P ) then you can probably just squeeze some more out of them anyway.

The second option, which I would recommmmend, is to get a job. Even if you don't get paid much, put it in a bank and it'll save up pretty quickly. Also, you'll learn more about the real world. :P
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.

but anyways, i'd suggest getting a job. show them you have incentive to make money, and start applying places.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>
